Emptiness

I stand at the Edge of Life
Looking out into the deepest abyss;
Behind me are the past, present, and future,
In front of me lies blissful nothingness.

I close my eyes and my mind sets adrift
Upon a sea of memories,
And thoughts of the road I've walked along
Crash into me, and knock me to my knees.

I think of all I once had, but lost,
And my tears fall down like rain;
For the moments I knew happiness
Are shadowed by hours of pain.

Could tomorrow hold something more
Than yesterday has given me?
Or am I foolishly dreaming now
That, one day, happiness will set me free?

I open my eyes, now filled with tears,
And look into the emptiness
Like a mirror reflecting the depths of my soul
That I, alone, may witness.

To me alone, not memory,
Is left the final decision;
Do I turn around and rejoin life,
Or seek comfort in the arms of Oblivion?

Sweet Terry........turn around.  You've
spoken to the dark side of my heart with
this piece...so much familiar saddness and
ache, it almost seems easier at times to
just "stop" rather than to move on with any
form of hope....but you are strong and
loving....you need to turn and feel the
sunshine on your face...not on your back.

**hugs**

wonderfully written poem, glad to know that that it was passing darkness and not a permanent rain cloud. REally enjoyed reading this.

Terry,
I admire that you are able to put your thoughts so clearly into poetic verse. It is often too difficult to verbalize. Keep writing, my friend. (((you)))

'Could tomorrow hold something more
Than yesterday has given me?'...
is a resounding YES !
Let me see a smile !

~For Terry~

Fate says in life ...
everything ... shall happen for a reason,
And time passes so slowly ...
when our hearts are in a change of season.
Still the roads not yet traveled,
will take us farther on past this pain.
And the lessons we learn along the way ...
will in time be the memories that will remain.
Believe in yourself ...
and the healing grace of your rhyme.
Trust your heart and sweet destiny ...
they will lead you back to love in due time.
jm

There are places inside our souls -
that have never been touched.
There are places inside our hearts -
that need to be loved this much.

Thank you so much, my friend.  I am glad that you enjoyed this one.

Claire~
Sometimes I just take a breath and put the pen to paper.  Every now and then I surprise myself at what comes out.

You touched my heart with this gentle verse and profound questions Terry ... beautifully penned.  Consider these sentiments a tender nudge to "turn around" on those days when your thoughts are heavy ... take care.

Best wishes and prayers,
/Kit

Thank you.  With friends like all of you, the choice is very clear to me.  There is no way that I can turn my back on life and let it pass me by.  Thank you again, my friend.

i'll take a bit of a different stance on this than everyone else (im in one of my moods!)...but this poem is so bittersweet that it almost makes "oblivian" look very inviting! ....but i am glad that you turned towards better things!

aw the echoes of our heart such emptiness depart but soon the light of day will come your way and fill the emptiness which seemed so enraptured just like a sweet perfume.  so do not worry Terry for sun will come your way and you will soon be merry and that way you will stay.
Terry very beautiful poem and we all feel this way at times.

Could tomorrow hold something more
Than yesterday has given me?
Or am I foolishly dreaming now
That, one day, happiness will set me free?

Your answer lies within your question...the indecision itself shows the strength to go on and with the power of your desire you will move mountains.  Beautiful verse.

Incredible.  This piece has left me soaking in my own spiritual stew.  You have written this with such vivid appearance and desperation of indecision.  I enjoyed this emensely.
