When the morning light comes stealing all the
                dark peace of my room,
and pries my eyelids open with it's brilliant
                       glare...
When I wake my brain enough to turn to where
                   your head should be,
I see that I am here.....
                          but you're not there...
The sheets that used to wrap around our legs,
                 when we made love,
are lying cold...not even slightly out of
                        place...
That old mirror on the wall where we made
                 faces at each other,
shows reflections of a sad and empty space..

I just never thought you'd leave me,
I just knew we'd see it through,
thought our love would keep us strong,
                 no matter what...
That night I understood as you walked out,
said you were leaving, then you made that
big oak door go slamming shut!
I guess I'll just keep hoping that someday
that door will open, but I feel
deep in my heart it never
                      will...
So, I climb back in that empty bed, thinking
only of the things you said, and I wish
that bird outside would just be
                      still...

I used to love the morning, listening to the
lovebirds singing, and the leaves all
          rustling gently in the breeze...
We'd have our morning coffee, watch the news,
and read the paper..looking out upon our
                newly planted trees...
Now I look at that same table where we sat
                as dawn was breaking,
wondering where our love had gone so very
                      wrong...
Then I close the blinds while wishing I could
                also close my ears...
So I'd never have to hear that love bird's
                       song...

A month has come and gone since then, and now
               I'm home from work again,
My old routine has kept my mind from thought..
But night is when I can't escape the memories
                 that we tried to make,
and all the bitter lessons love has
                       taught...
So I shed my clothes and crawl in bed, not
              turning on the overhead,
When suddenly I know I'm not alone...
Your head is back where it should be,
On the pillow lying next to me,
And the smile that lights my face says....
                 "Welcome Home!"

         Then somewhere in the darkness...
With a voice both clear and strong...
We were serenaded by the love bird's
                        song......

Ah Sunny,
Gracefully written, and a favorite line as below.

I used to love the morning, listening to the
lovebirds singing, and the leaves all
rustling gently in the breeze...

I can picture the early morning, lovebird's singing, and the dew gracefully lifting from the meadow.

I'm glad that I stopped by.
