Teachers

A whining wind blows tumbleweed
across its arid yard,
a broken window can't impede
the dusty disregard
as teachers' hasty mea culpas
paper the schoolroom floor,
a busied class, the grand ideas,
has rushed to re-explore.

Blackboard scribblings still in place,
forgotten their review,
jokes, and smiles whose chats retrace
the searching of a few
for tools by which good tropes are made,
to find closeness transcends
when bon vivants in mien conveyed
a thirst for lifelong friends.

Who knows the dingy history,
of wasting one room schools
retelling ancient mystery
and duty's golden rules
to wide-eyed wondering wannabes
absorbing every word?
Those sages engaged Truth's decrees,
their tests assured it heard!

So promenade with well-earned pride
your graduation stage,
faithful teachers, let us provide
applause, the tribute page,
vocation done, a race well run,
and accolades of grace.
Embrace in peace the setting sun
our books mark well your place.

This reminded me of an old school house in MO where I used to spend my summers as a child.  Great write and count me in for the "click"
