Very new to writen poetry so please don't laugh too loud

In recited or verbal poetry the reader can use pauses inflections etc to give greater or less
emphasis to different parts of a poem as required

In writen poetry we can use commas and what else??

What can we use to give the [pregnant pause]
type effect?

O.k. so I am going to ask....what is "pregnant pause"?

Is it when your pregnant and the more months that go by, the less brain cells you have? Therefore your forever loosing your train of thought when explaining something..Did anyone experience this?

Sorry must only be an Australian expression

Simply means a longer pause than normal

The King of dragons lived for years
You are now inside his tears
As you roll down from his eye
Wonder,,,,,What makes a Dragon cry

That sort of pause
It does give a totally different inflection to that piece
But what is the correct way to show it??

Smiling at this...

[Pregnant] Pauses can be achieved by ellipses...

or            spacing

something to give the reader
an intentional bit of            space,
or a drop

                  in

                               time

and if you are wondering "how did she achieve this?" just click on the blue and white notepad directly above the post which will take you into the edit feature.  You can then see how things are spaced out.

Me?  I LOVE pregnant pauses...

and ellipses!
