haven't forgotten you little English Forum...!

Poor thing...she is feeling neglected.

So tell me....
it's 2.18am right now and all my brain can come up with is:
What are some of your favourite words and why???

Paradigm - sounds so solid...fits nicely on the tongue

Elucidate - the opposite - it's like silk, like water on the tongue.

I can say these two over and over quite happily...

That's two for now...

yours guys?

Hmmmm..lessee:

Tripindicular
Splendiforous
Persnickity (go fig)
Sublime (what a terrifying and beautiful word)
Serendipity (Eureka, I've got it!!!)
Synergism (2 + 2 can = 5...just round up)

Well, that's about it for now...brain is flatulent again.

Alicat, the Persnikitty

Procrastinate - cause I do it so well.

Lackadaisical - Yep, like it.
And it was the Word of the Day on October 5, 1999.

Gendarme - ??? who knows why ?

Chanteuse - Yep, had to throw this one in.

And the #1 favorite word of mine - Friendship

Complacent: because of those hicks in NZ.

Self-Indulgent: see complacent.

No, seriously:

Paradigm: Because I know what it means and lossa peoples don't... It sounds so - Modern

Concatenate: Again, sounds modern. It's strong and "there."

Them's mine fer the day.

I've come up with some more recently, that I just LOVE...here's a little P session:

Pita - Very nice Italian bread in one context...

Peremptory...sounds so very contemporary and it's so applicable to one non-piece of Italian bread...

Prosody...the study of the art of versification (I don't 'do' verse, so it's fascinating).

Procumbent...nice strong sounding word...and it pertains to lying on one's face - a position I sometimes enjoy shoving people into while I am winning at wrestling.

I am terribly sorry to keep dredging up these old threads but I just recently discovered this forum.
For years I thought that I was the only one with favorite words!
My two absolute favorite words are:

somnambulism- it sounds so mysterious and dark

prestidigitation- it almost sounds like a parody of itself

some others of mine are:

legerdemain- another term for prestidigitation, it has an authority about it

tintinnabulation- it rolls so trippingly off the tongue (as Poe noted in his poem 'The Bells')

Ah well, by dredging this up, maybe you'll get some more responses!

Word of the Day for Friday July 27, 2001-

'Cockaigne \kah-KAYN\, noun -
An imaginary land of ease and luxury.'

This is from www.dictionary.com and is a wonderful way to explore new word meanings.
They'll even mail it to you each day !
