Loss

The lights flicker,
But don't go out.
I go to move,
As i hear the shouts.

The confusion is clear,
In the trembling voice.
They all know,
There was no other choice.

The shaking remains,
But on a smaller scale.
They try to stop spbbing,
But miserably fail.

It's dim in here,
In this little room.
We know if lay low,
Help will come soon.

But it's so quiet,
We can't hear a sound.
I can't roll over,
I can't see around.

But suddenly i see,
In the corner of my eye.
A little, tiny boy,
Trying not to cry.

I smile slightly,
The happiest face i can find.
Trying my hardest,
To be friendly and kind.

He blinks twice,
And looks away.
My words get stuck,
I've got nothing to say.

His head lulls back,
His eyes open wide.
They start to glisten,
He begins to cry.

I try to touch him,
I can't quiet reach.
Then i notice,
He's starting to speak.

"It's my birthday"
He whispered my way.
Once again,
I had nothing to say.

He was turning 12,
On this day.
As he stared at me,
His vision did fade.

I shook my head,
Trying to pull free.
But this large piece of wood,
Was covering me.

Once again,
I smiled his way.
He smiled so slightly,
Then the smile fell away.

That day forever,
Is embedded in my head.
I was laying beside my son,
Who was dead.

Oh Ella! I hope this was something that
you made up. How tragic and sad  --
losing a child is more than I could endure.

What words can one say to a dying a child?

Heartfelt sad poem. Thank you for sharing.
