Hollows worn deep in the wood-
Of his bare, board, bedroom floor.
Put there by his calloused knees-
As he called upon the Lord.

Work worn hands he clasped in prayer-
And bowed his hoary head-
To thank his God for providence-
Of milk, and meat, and bread.

The fathers of our country-
Were not our presidents…
But poor, God-fearing farmers,
I wonder where they went?

They prayed for rain to raise their crops;
And strength to raise their kids.
Then finally vanished from the land-
God help us, since they did.

The fathers of our country-
Their works do praise them still.
But since they’ve vanished from our midst-
Our country’s gone down hill.

Wow, Gunslinger, what a great tribute
for those that lived and died - working
their hands to the bone and never recognized.

A well woven poem

Hearts on their knees before the Lord is the only thing that will save our country. Great poem, Gunslinger!

GS this was fabulous! Ya know around here in my town they paid tribute to a woman named Annie Glidden. She was also a farmer who ran her own farm, received awards for her crop, and at the age of 60 something went to college just because she wanted to learn something new.
They have painted her full size picture on the sides of one of the buildings here.

Our country has gone down hill hasn't it?
It's sad, it really is, all the rush these days, and somewhere in the midst they've forgotten who's given it all to them. There will always be a remnant though.
