Do you recall records well?
The good ole days are gone for long
Eight tracks moved to cassettes
I have each way to play my songs

One day I will have a study
With shelves to fill my collection
Compact discs are reigning now
They’ll be in the older section

Writing poetry is my passion
It might never make my living
But to look for inspiration
My music is always giving

I’ve twenty-four Beatle CDs
I would say that they are the best
But then I look at Neil Diamond
His savoir-faire and hairy chest

Billy Joel’s the Piano Man
He cracks me up and makes me sad
Electrical Light Orchestra
Makes me like songs that are bad

The Turtles were in the big time
They played the Ed Sullivan show
My autographed cover delights me
I’m so happy to let you know

Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin
They’re living in rock and roll peace
Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly
Their legends will never cease

When the Mamas and the Papas
Need to talk about birds and bees
Instead much more important
Are the Byrds and Monkees

Bob Dylan’s poetic style
And the Beatles solo careers
Simon and Garfunkel bring me
To cry soft and quiet tears

Cat Stevens and the crazy Kinks
Donovan, Jefferson Airplane
My all time favorite weirdoes
When I’m feeling a bit insane

The Doors and the Rolling Stones
They enjoyed such huge success
Herman’s Hermits are great oldies
The Dave Clark Five are no less

Let me say this but just once
I will say it softly and slow
Yes I ever so often will
Listen to Barry Manilow

I do like good Tears for Fears
Maybe more than Fleetwood Mac
If my departed mother knew
She would have a heart attack

Duran Duran and Aerosmith
I am quite the Super Tramp
I do love my good Adam Ant
His made up face looks like a vamp

Bruce Springsteen is my hero
I love USA I’ll say aloud
But yuh gotta have the Police
So Every Breath You Take is proud

Jane happens to be the name
Of my sweet mother in law
Jane’s Addiction is to be
Always getting stuck in my craw

You know I love poetic puns
I hope this one will win yuh
What do you think about?
When I say I like that Enya

Butthole Surfers and Chumbawumba
Are two groups I love to say
But Violent Femmes I’ll always hope
Will come crashing along my way

Green Day and the Chili Peppers
R.E.M. and Sound Garden
I listen to them so loud
I’ll have to beg your pardon

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
O man can they really wail
And I listen to my Weezer
Cuz I lived their silly tales

Bush can surely take the Cake
In a battle of the bands
I try to hear the Cranberries
But she’s so hard to understand

To Third Eye Blind my darlings
You know I’ll Never Let You Go
Sugar Ray and the Verve Pipe
Your Freshmen works steal the show

So from Beck and Prodigy
Smash Mouth and the Pumpkins too
Even disco can sometimes be
A poet’s paradise come true

Ah, you've named a lot of great ones here, and some I've never heard of.
Areosmith I love, David Lee Roth, Zepplin
many more. Smashmouth my kids listen to, and they're pretty cool!

I can't believe you still have 8 tracks. I remember getting my first stereo with 8 tracks. Man that was a long time ago

Great job Walt, you've brought back a lot of memories

My man, my man!
This is great.
Lots of good music in there.
Now I just KNOW you've got the EAGLES
in there somewhere ... crank it up !

This was fun for us .. and I'm sure
it was fun for you.
Thanks, Walt.

I recall them halcyon days
On turntable Spike Jones plays
Then eigth-track came a-risa
I think I still have Handel's Messiah
Tapes I've had until they broke
Many dollars up in smoke
To CD's I'd often groove
Till they got lost in a move
There's something about MP3es
When they play my PC freezes
So I decode to MPEG-3
Making wavs fast and free
So I'll sit here with little sense
Singing to They Might Be Giants

the first 45 I ever bought was the Jackson 5
the first concert I ever saw was Frampton-Live.
Im a dinosaur... so I still have my 8 tracks.
and if my husband knew what I spend on music, he'd have an attack.
I've slowly been replacing all my vinyl with CD.
At last count my collection was about 373.
I cant ever pick a favorite, they all are sublime...
my motto in life....is so much music--so little time!

EXCELLENT poem wayoutW...this is so creative and cool...very fun to read...
very cool...
jm

Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.
