I was just enjoying a midday’s lazy sleep
The kind where so often I dream bout Meryl Streep
But then as I was clutching for my absent wife
The dream came I always dread; the album of my life

Photos of times I miss flashing before my eyes
Their speed of arrival reminds me how time flies
First I saw my mother she seemed to be so real
We were laughing loudly high on the ferris wheel

I saw Grandma tending the flea market table
She’d let me make the sell as if she wasn’t able
An old picture of my Dad at the football game
Before a stroke made him forget his very name

I began to watch myself crying in my bed
Watching my friends leave me some for the dead
Then it all circled in on the home I left behind
I left for a better life I thought I’d never find

Then a picture of a phone hard to understand
Why was ringing incessantly then was in my hand
Relief struck me for these times I do really miss
Smiling as my wife said, she just called to blow a kiss

All Day I Dream About Stanzas!!

Walt,
This is so becoming of you. You should write "serious poems" more often. ...but don't quit writing the funny ones yuh

Wow.  So sad, it captured me the hole way throuhg and I like the ending too.

A good reminder a little love can make all the pain in the world go away.

"The storm rises up when the shadows descend
every beat of my heart every day without end
I will stand like a rock I will bend till I break
till theres no more to give if thats what it takes
I will risk everything I will fight I will bleed
I will lay down my life if thats what you need
every second I live thats the promise I make"

I have no idea who wrote this... tell me if you know. =)

I like this too, Walt. Its poignancy brings the reader right into the dream with you. Thanks.

Well said and super finish.  Brought some memories back to me.  Funny how some moments in our lives are seldom appreciated until reflected upon.
Really enjoyed reading this poem..good job with the rhyme also.
