Welcome

It was like a house
rarely visited,
full of dark, dusty corners,
seldom seen.

Many came to the front door,
but very few got in.

But you didn't ask permission.
You hammered at my mind's door
with questions
to which I had no answers;
forcing me to look inside
and yes, to even open up the door
and reveal to you
things I had been unable
(Unwilling)
to share.

You crawled inside
and found a part of me
lost long ago,
hidden deep within.

Suddenly, I wanted to show you around;
break down walls;
and even open closet doors.

Somewhere along the way,
you had changed
from an uninvited guest
to a welcome visitor
as you became my friend.

 To love means never to be afraid of the windstorms of life: should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings. ~Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Hi Lady Hoot,

You are so special and loving, it is true this place makes you want to open up and start living free of the chains that hold us captive. Beautiful poem.

Hoot, be careful, likeing can turn to loving and those friends that knock down walls can become a soulmate before the stars fade.
Nice poem you write here.
Lucky the guy that has your door opened to him!

I walked into your home, and immediately felt the warmth of heart as I sat by your fireplace, the compassionate and mellowed spirit as we chatted for hours over a cup of coffee, and an extraordinary mind, as I glanced over the volumes on your bookshelf. I felt quite at home immediately, and please know my door is always open to you.
A wonderful poem

This was a beautiful poem, and describes the way of friendship more beautifully than I have ever seen.

Ruth,
    This was a very enjoyable piece of work and revealed some interesting thoughts on friendship and sharing.

Ruth,
     I, for one, am very glad you answered the door.  It is so much fun to share time with friends than to stay at home all alone.  Believe me, I know.  We may go home after we stay a while, but we will be back the next day!

Ruth: "You crawled inside"...boy do I relate..

All this love and friendship can be pretty overwhelming, can't it?  But you return it many times over..

Ruth, I had those same Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door but I didn't let them in! You are much more giving than I am

Ruth, I love your home. The structure is great and there is always a light on upstairs. I feel honored to have been a welcome guest. I have also felt this way. Maybe we should subscribe to Better Homes and Guard Downs. Love ya, Ruth

Beautifully written and expressed.  Everything you write comes directly from the heart, which besides the fact you are a splendid poet, more importantly makes you a splendid person.

Ahh Ruth. You did the same for me and now you reside in my heart for always.   Though my contact here has been limited as of late (and will probably continue to), I still charish you and the friends I have made here.
