I wrung out the night
twisting, squeezing with a groan
it took all my might
all my power down to the bone
then i laid it out to the air
and ran my fingers through it`s darkness
i heard it`s call, said run with me
electric jolted by it`s starkness
i felt my spirit bolt for the gate
with a surprising quickness of old
i let the night overcome me
wrap me up, let it grab a hold
had been eons since i felt this...
escape! had screamed my soul
but loosed it now flew reckless
drunk on life`s living as one free
and having smelled the sweet air
i wonder if it will come back to me
and be happy to be caged in flesh
imprisoned by the dawn, returned to it`s posture
the line of it`s sensibilities drawn
one thing is for certain and this i vow as true
it won`t be as long till the next time
that oh night i run with you

I liked this piece alot as it had really good vivid descriptions and expression.

Really nice work here.

I find myself running with the night almost endlessly.  Good poem.

Deep and poignant, this meticulously worded poem struck my heart.  Familiarity and sorrow. Thank you for sharing it.

I often run with the night as well, I find a peace within that most don't see.

Great Poem!

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, not the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson
