   Sunday Morning

I remember listening for a sound
that woke me to my face gently
breezed by open window
with jasmine as sultry as a sigh wafting
dreams of islands and pools the color
of your blue eyes
those azure seas with fish like flashes
of perfect primary color weaving
between the swaying slithering plants

and your sweet breath was there
the way it croons in sleep as familiar
as the rustle of leaves from raccoons digging
sniffing night vigil and then the far-off
call of the neighborhood dogs
all listening with me
to the disturbed quiet
and singing into that first glimpse of dawn
when the morning dove sighs me to sleep
with you curled against my back and
catching my neck
with sweet shivering contentment.

Martie~

Just beautiful .....

'jasmine as sultry as a sigh wafting
dreams of islands'

Who'd want to roll out
with images as serene as this !

This is truly, truly exquisite--seemingly simple, but intricate...a sonata!  a "keeper" for me, please!  thank you much.

This must be why they call it free verse because you set my spirits free every time I read one of your masterpieces. Beautiful, Martie.

Liz--one word from you is worth a thousand.

Marge--Tis true, and I didn't.

Serenity--I love that you would want to keep this poem...of course and thank you

Balladeer--Free to be you and me...I wish sometimes that I could write my heart in rhyme, like you and so many others here.

Martie,
That you write from your heart is what matters, dear poet. And I can assure you, you do that with all ease. Lovely, lovely verse!

Let me tell you my friend, Sunday morning is just as beautiful on Monday morning.  Exquisitely done.  Your free verse is a special gift with which you grace us.
