I'm a poet who writes on napkins,
A poet who writes on my hand.
Poetically....thoughts come to me
Erratic and unplanned.
When they are found I write them down
No matter where I am.
I'm a poet who writes on napkins
A poet who writes on my hand.

I'll write my thoughts down anywhere
On anything I've got.
I've written them on toilet paper
When I'm on the pot!
When sparks ignite my hand to write
The embers must be fanned.
I'm a poet who writes on napkins,
A poet who writes on my hand.

My finger itch. My muscles twitch
When new thoughts come my way.
A sudden burst of clever verse
Will brighten up my day.
Don't ask me why. It heats up my old
"Poetruary" gland.
I'm a poet who writes on napkins,
A poet who writes on my hand.

Balladeer~

I understand completely.

When thoughts come fluttering my way,
as they so often do.
I just have to write them down ...
sometimes even on my shoe !
Then I hobble cross the room
to find a paper and pen
only to find my soles are empty
for I've stepped on them.

Wherever you write them ...
you write classical pieces of you.
They do sell little notebooks at
the WalMart !   One aisle over
from the TP !

You caused this ... yes you did !
~*Marge*~

I was just going thru that this afternoon because I had written the majority of a poem in my notebook...only a rough draft..and later while driving in my car I got some new thoughts so I wrote them on a napkin and on a priority mail sticker.   I was busy only 30 minutes ago trying to find the napkin and the priority mail sticker and I finally located them on top of my bookshelve.  I confess i've used toilet paper also and on my hand but that is a last resort.  James

Walt....uh, I think I'll pass on that one, ok?

Martie...OK ya talked me into it! Thank you.

jmlee...That's exactly right. Sometimes it's like trying to fit a jigsaw puzzle together. Thanks for the tip about the priority mail sticker.

Marge...So, Marge, you wrote a sonnet
        There inside your shoe?
And, since you stepped upon it,
        It disappeared from view?
Well, dear, I hate to tell you
        Because you're very sweet
But that's not really what they mean
        When they say "metered feet".

Sir Balladeer, I can totally relate to this one envelopes are good ones for me, I seem to always have them around, I've learned to carry pad though so scurrying is less. I love your "poetuary gland" how interesting.

clever, this is a treat to read.
It's not whats written on that makes the poet...

As paper's sometimes not around
we use those things that do abound
An egg-shell here a melon there
printing all with-out a care
In this way we say our piece
and somehow gain some slight release

Enjoyed much sir .

Balladeer,

I completely understand.  I know very few people who can be creative on demand.  Most must wait for inspiration to strike like lightning. I keep a running log in my Day Planner.  Happy inspirations to you Balladeer,

INclan

I've written poems on my grocery list,
written lines on my hand and wrist.
In my van...on the windshield...
from lipstick a poem did yield.
When inspiration drops in...
its hell to be without paper and pen!
Then it hit me...I got smart in short order...
went to the store and got me-- a mini tape recorder!

splendid poem Balladeer...now go wash your hands hon...thanks for inspiring me in this late hour.
take care, jm

LOL - I had to laugh just reading the title.  I am guilty of writing on just about everything... napkins included.  Great poem, Balladeer, know you are not alone.

LOL, I can relate, but I rarely have a pen handy, so those great ideas for poems are gone by the time I get to a place to pen them. Great poem Balladeer

This is really good!  You have a tremendous gift with rhythm and rhyme.  I can relate to this poem too.  There are people who wonder why I always stuff receipts down in my purse, and never clean the thing out.  Well, that' so when those words flood over me, there's always a scrap of paper waiting in there to write on!

Another great one!!  I've been there.  I often carry around a folded piece of paper in my back pocket to take such note.  Wonderful poem!

LOL...I think I've written on about everything but toilet paper. Of course, if it came down to that, I'd use that too

I've found that napkins are the best material for all deep thoughts - especially poems.  I have a collection of deep thoughts written on napkins all around my room.  (I think that's why this poem appealed to me so much)

And I thought I was the only one here with a collection of 20-yr-old cocktail napkins...
thank you!  I actually feel a little bit normal today!

Balladeer you got my mind going here. ROFL!
Don't fan it when your on the pot
And you know what they say about itchy fingers?  ROFLMAO! I couldn't resist.

Now on the serious side, write em and keeping em coming, the master of verse!
