"Arms Are For Hugging"

Arms are for hugging, your sticker says.
You smile, our cars passing,
dancing, slowly,
back and forth, back and forth
traffic ebbing and flowing
and slowing.
Arms are for hugging.
I look into your kind, wise eyes
and wonder what it would be
for you to hold me.
How would you smell?
How would your skin taste?
Your voice above me,
throat pressed, warm, against my head.
How would you say
my name?
In those few
flowing,
slowing moments
of dance,
I think you may have been
wondering too.

Dear LadyClaire

i liked it alot.
it's crazy how this type of thing goes on constantly throughout the day, sometimes subconsciously, where we picture ourselves with someone we see.  it may be only for a moment that it crosses our mind, but it happens so often...
wonderful idea for a poem.

Claire, you have made rush hour sound like fun...strangers locking eyes from the safety of their cars...imagination takes a ride...refreshing and wonderful poem!

Claire that was me in the other car and I was wondering the same thing and I still am.  We sure missed a good opportunity.  The smell would be musk and I taste delicious. Next time I'll beep two times and pull over. James

excellent poem Claire..love the way your mind works
take care, jm

The stars shine so bright, now's the time
I close my eyes - soft wind touch my face,
Cool sand upon the place where I once kissed you
And held you close.
Now I will reach for the stars...
Because Oh my love, that's where you are...
Though the storms of black night rage on
I still see your face
I still feel your lips on mine
And though my heart feels all alone without you
I still hear you sing to me
I still hear your voice on the sea...

Claire~
I love this.
Bumper sticker readers are
often treated to flights of fancy.
You took this one to the limit.
Delightful fun.

hehe. This is great, Claire. Good subject and good writing. Can't always trust those bumper stickers, though. I saw one the other day that said HONK IF YOU LOVE PEACE AND QUIET so I did.....and she gave me the finger!

This is great Claire~
I saw one today that made me laugh~
It read, "Life is too uncertain--eat desert first!"
And so I do

A maiden fair in velvet carriage,
Passes knight on stallion strong,
As paths cross upon king's highway,
Maiden's thoughts, sweet passions long.
Around the bend, knight e'er has ridden,
But for an instant, t'was romance,
As white knight espied fair maiden,
For an instant; passion's glance.

weaubleau...I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for letting me know. I can't say it happens with me "constantly," but when it does, it's definitely a bit of a sweetened spark.

Martie...thank you. Somehow I get the feeling that you've been there...

James...That was you?? Sheesh! We certainly "did" miss a good opportunity, didn't we? Next time you notice a burgundy 2000 Ford Windstar with a rather pretty, long haired woman dancing with you in traffic, do me a favor...slow down...!!

Janet Marie...thank you for reading this one. Glad you enjoyed it

Marge...I have a habit of reading "everything" when I'm driving...including the looks in handsome strangers' eyes.   Thanks for the response...so glad you enjoyed this.

Balladeer...I've seen bumper stickers like that too...but never honked. I think it's because I love peace and quiet too much. Glad you liked this one.

Marie...The dessert thing sounds perfectly sensible to me...   Thanks for reading!

Liz...thank you. Sensuality can work its way in to the most commonplace circumstances if we let it.   I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

Sven...yes, just imagine...   I'm glad you liked this! (thank you for the "excellent")

Mike...

'Twas knight's bold stare
upon strong stallion
caught, at once,
fair maiden's eye.
As carriage, steed
and glances passed
between the two
on King's Way, high.
For into battle,
the warrior traveled
and toward her home,
the maid prevailed,
and ever farther,
rode they two
but in two hearts,
true passion sailed.

Panthers Chrysalis...hope you enjoy your ride...thank you for the nice comment!

INclan...I thank you, sincerely, for reading and letting me know what you thought.
