              In the Mirror

She once was full of laughter and full of grace
She now only stares into a solemn face.
She looks in the mirror and what does she see
A shell of a woman who used to be.

Like a broken dam, memories flood her mind
Of younger years how life was kind.
Of the love that was real and oh so true
Her colorful world is now only blue.

Through the turnstile he walked it was time to go
He turned to her and said this you must know
I love you my darling, and please do not fear.
Hold me close in your heart, then Iíll always be near

Duty had called him to a land far away
By that turnstile she waits day after day
for the man who was to make her his wife
She has lived a lonely, dark bitter life.

Dreams that they made with young love afire
The life they would live full of desire.
But that dream was lost, it shattered apart
The day that he left, it broke her heart.

She once was full of laughter and full of grace
She now only stares into a solemn face.
She looks in the mirror and what does she see
A shell of a woman who used to be.

 --------------
You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King

Kitkat...this is SO sadly beautiful...
so very well written and expressed...
perfect rhyme flow...
this reminded me of the story my grandmother told me of when grandpa went of to war.
very nice work on this piece
great to have a poem from ya
take care,jm

The stars shine so bright, now's the time
I close my eyes - soft wind touch my face,
Cool sand upon the place where I once kissed you
And held you close.
Now I will reach for the stars...
Because Oh my love, that's where you are...
Though the storms of black night rage on
I still see your face
I still feel your lips on mine
And though my heart feels all alone without you
I still hear you sing to me
I still hear your voice on the sea...

Yes...

I just had to find out where Delta Dawn ended up. Nice work kit, I guess she still at the station.

KitKat~
So emotional the parting that you tell.
Beautifully done.

And years later, did she stop looking in the mirror, until she nearly forgot who she used to be, only a vapor in the wind of the memories carefully preserved in her soul?

This poem evokes many personal feelings in me.  It is very special.  A tear-jerking experience.  Too real for any casual reading.

Thank you for such a gift.

Thank you all for such nice comments. I fear I am not a very good replier to all of yours. I do read almost everthing here though. What a great bunch of poets you all are.
