As I walked to school
I kept my eyes to the ground
I saw no reason to look up
In my sorrows I drowned

Day after day I did the same
Following the same sad path
I kept to my own little world
One forged of bitterness and wrath

That path was one of sorrow
One I learned quite well
I kept note of every step
That led me to my hell

A step here, my father
Who beat me when I was bad
Another step, my mother
Who aspired to make me mad

But this path paved in anger
Led me to a graver fate
To school with my peers
Who taught me how to hate

Once in awhile I would look up
And be blinded by the light
I decided to stick to my path
With all the normal sights

One day I got sick of it all
And decided to look around
I saw a whole other world
Just waiting to be found

Again I apologize for not being around lately, this is the first serious poem I have written in over a week   Im sorry I havent been replying a lot either, free time has become a luxury I can't afford.

Never apologize for life. This is pretty good..I'm seeing a transition in your work.. Take your time...we'll be here the next time you have a chance to write.

If anyone can relate to the free time thing Travis, I can. I have been on line 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Mostly I check and reply to my mail, IF I have the time. I am not sure if anyone remembers me anymore...lol.

Glad to see you have found a brighter path my friend. ((hug))

You know, you're right, this is a serious poem, but the way you've chosen to bring around the ending speaks to me as more of a beginning, and I LIKE that!  Good writing, my friend.

Mistik, this is a wonderful poem that I can relate to. I'll be glad to wait awhile for the next beautiful piece!

Well you found that "whole other world" much earlier than I did, my friend.  Took me some 30 years.  I can still remember it coming into view, though.  Like wiping cobwebs from the eyes and feeling the sun for the first time.  You've taken me back to a wonderful moment.  Thank you.
