Nothing To No-One

I can't be everything to everyone,
This much I have accrued
So why be anything to anyone,
When all yet treat me so shrewd.

Lo, who would lend a shoulder,
Better yet paint eyes with trust?
Only to turn my nights colder
When I cannot share their lust...

Is friendship really priced so cheap?
Then let me stand alone.
Silence shall be my crop to reap,
Love, my sin to atone.

But ne'er by eyes of scolded Fate
Nor eviscerated trust
Shall I draw pain from whispered hate
Or promises turned dust.

Yes, look away when I approach,
Worse yet, offer a smile.
Speak soft your judgements of reproach,
But who lives in denial?

The darkness of this world, ‘er mine
I would not wish to one.
Nor hold silence to undermine
Emotion now undone.

Condemn my actions if you must,
You need not understand.
For I heed call to the unjust,
But not by sleight of hand.

I've stood alone thirty-two years,
What here could change that now?
Manipulative guilt and tears?
No! I will never bow!

Michael Anderson

For all behind was dark and drear,
And all before was night and fear.
How many hours of night or day
In those suspended pangs I lay,
I could not tell; I scarcely knew
If this were human breath I drew.

Lord Byron

Michael, the insight here is remarkable, beautifully sad and forlorn, but with conviction to stay strong.

Well done, my friend.

Michael, Always stay strong and know you can walk that extra mile if wearing the right shoes. Look not unto how other's feel about you, go out and make other's feel good about themselves, the reward multiplies itself in the end.

You're definantly everything to me Michael, and don't you dare forget it!!! Take some of your own advice dearest, and don't be so hard on yourself- you honestly cannot be everything to everyone-being yourself should be enough...and if not-they aren't worth it!!! Till tonight hun..

painful poem M, painful title...
listen to devina...she speaks the truth...
dont be so hard on your self...

Nothing to no one...
we all feel this way at times, tis true.
but like so many rhymes before,
our hearts must disagree with you.
Yes, some have treated you unjust,
some have taken of your soul.
Both the darkness and the silence...
in time, do take their toll.

Still, we wish to serve as a reminder...
not all who lend a shoulder, offer in vain.
No man should always stand alone,
no heart should only know pain.
You ask here what could change that now...
the answer lies inside of you.
In time your heart will trust again...
in time love will see you thru.

...when you walked into the room, I saw their faces,
you made it feel like time was standing still...and I felt fascination...
then you turned and smiled in my direction...
and my heart...gave me away.

This is a remarkable poem. I feel the same way a lot of the time. And poetry that I can relate to increadibly is the kind I love the very most. I'm so glad I got a chance to read this one. It is going to go into my favorites archive.....very well done!

There are none who can make an innocent,
Guilty of any crime.
There are none who can take the very strength,
From any of your rhyme.
There is only two who really know,
The sins to which you bow.
There is only you who can atone,
To God and others now.
Take heed my friend when guilt is felt,
For your inner voice does speak.
Change the things which cause you guilt,
For guilt will make you weak.

Beautiful verse Michael and many truths are found in your words. I too have stood alone for 32 years and I relate to your words. There are many who willing offer you a shoulder to lean on with no strings attached. Mine is one of them. Only you and your Heavenly Father know of what you are truely guilty of. Take heed of the warnings and make your life one of peace. Guiltless in both your and his eyes. No one can make you feel guilty for anything, only you can take responsiblity for what is truely yours.

A friend always.

-Michael

As always your poetry is full of intense emotion that I see rarely elsewhere! You write from such a deep place in your soul, and so beautifully.

this poem in particular touched something inside of me.

"Yes, look away when I approach,
Worse yet, offer a smile.
Speak soft your judgements of reproach,
But who lives in denial?"
This stanza right here was so intense and powerful. My hat is off to you dear friend!

Take care,
AMY

Excellent poem

But yet in all the sadness of reality, you cant help but deny, that you are truley something to someone.

L.D., well I think I have holes in my shoes but I'm still trudging along anyway.  Indeed, helping others reaps bountiful rewards in the end.

Danny, I think I need some oiling...LOL  Or a new belt...

devina, I wouldn't ever forget that - nor try to.  I would rather be everything to someone than something to everyone any day of the week.  Thank you for ALWAYS being here for me.  Know I am yours always as well.

Cheryl, Thank you very much, I am only saddened to hear you have felt the same way of late.

Rebecca, you are SO right - I don't need to be bowing to other people's impossible demands.  It will all go away soon I hope - and for those "friends" that disappear with it - well I can only say they're friendships weren't genuine to begin with anyway.

PdV, How's this

Janet, I don't think I'm the one being hard on me...LOL

SorrowsMystress, Thank you for such an endearing compliment.  I have read much of your work and completely related - I'm not surprised to see you relate so well to mine.

Marilyn, I don't know if I read your reply correctly but I think you misinterpreted my poem.  This poem was not about guilt I am feeling but about so called friends who use "guilt trip manipulation" to try and push you into meeting their wants.  And who basically snub you and your friendships when you don't.  I am not feeling guilty here at all - just a little peaved at how shallow some "friends" have turned out to be of late.

Amy, Thank you dear.  That was one of my favorite stanza's as well.  Glad to have touched you.

Mistikman, Indeed.

One Who Understands, You are very right in that perception...    And there are many who are very dear to me.  I think the title was very reflective of my anger at the time.

Pepper, ((HUGS)) to you also. You've always been there for me too, Indeed, you are a lovely friend.

Thank you all for your kind replies.

Michael
