Young Love

“You’ve never looked so beautiful.
May I have this dance?”
The words echoed
in the still of the night
as he reached to touch
the cheek he’d touched
a hundred times before.

A youthful glisten
caught in her eyes
as she laughed
at the absurdity of his words;
yet smiled at his tenderness;
realizing how much she loved him
after all these years.

Her frail hand
brushed a lock of gray
from her wrinkled face
as he leaned in
towards the hospital bed
to kiss her once more
before the nurses came
to wheel him away.

Ruth,
     You have taken my breath away with this one!   I love it.  I know in my heart that true love will never age, and never die,
and this is a wonderful testament to that.  I just hope that one day I can find this type of love!

Thank you for vividly portraying what we have to look forward to

At least the lucky ones will arrive there accompanied. Nice point made, Ruth.

You've captured a moment , and in it, a lifetime. That is great poetry.

Ruth,

I've been waiting for love sooooo long, when I first fell in love I was 5 yrs. old and I could'nt wait 'til I was ten. Surely I'd be all grown by then. Five years had already seemed an eternity. Now some odd years later and still on the bottle find myself asking mom while at the store if I can please please have some candy. When do the young grow up, and should I worry about this..?

and oh...

Balladeer Thank you, at least "lucky" will arrive there accompanied by Ducky along with a heart full of passion sweets. Very Nice. I like that.

Ruth,
Lovely picture and touching sentiment.  We can all only hope to find such a love some day.  Excellent poem.
