(this can be found on the main site--http://www.netpoets.com/poems/death/0227004a.htm)

The caring prayers, the shaking shock -
This awful news my world did rock.
No one knew how it happened or why.
We were all so sad; it made me cry.
How unfair it should have happened now -
Won't someone ever tell me how?
Her tears had dried, her pain had healed;
And God chose this time for her life to yield.
It's later now, while we've moved on -
We miss her as though she had just gone.
We'll never forget all the good she did,
Even though, to her our farewells we've bid.
We love her still, we miss her yet;
And on this I'll forever bet.
If she is truly in our hearts,
From us she'll never be truly apart.

Nov. 1998

The "shaking shock" of losing someone, and then the realization they are with us forever, so well portrayed in this poem. I felt the loss of a loved one as I was reading this, and shed a tear. I still miss her so after 30 years

You've expressed those unfortunate feelings of loss beautifully, Elizabeth.. It's nice to see some of the poems from the main site surfacing here on the forums too...

Nice work, my friend..

I had just lost my mother around the time of your writing this if the date is correct. I sure do miss her and I sure wished it hadn't happened then. Well written.

Lucky--I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I wrote this poem November of'98, the 12th or 13th I believe. Thank you.

Janet, WhtDove, Severn, Hoot, and Claire--thank you all for reading this. It was the first poem I wrote and have been doing so since! Glad you liked it, it is very close to me.

Elizabeth, this is a beautiful poem. It made me think of my grandfather who passed away 11 years ago. Good job.

Elizabeth, very poignant!  I feel your loss, and I share your grief as I recall the loved ones I have also lost.  Even though they live  on in our hearts, it sometimes feels like a poor substitute, doesn't it?
