Nesting Dove - Spirit Of Spring
~*Marge Tindal*~

Sweet, sweet coo of morning
catches my spirit best
There upon the bumper
Mourning Dove on nest

Same sweet dove that visits
on my morning break
Peaceful dove of cooing
when brief pause I take

Cooing as though to call me
to her proudest hour
Set of nest not far beyond
the blooming of the flower

We bond with sounds of our making
spoken low each day at morn
She tends now her nest
I shelter her from harm

Off in the distance
the cooing of her mate
Ah, but girls are different
We two can relate

Today she seemed to bid me
stroke her feathers fine
As I did she cooed
Joy is surely mine !

*This picture was taken at the RV Dealership where I work. This dove meets me at the 'musing tree' every morning ... and yesterday she bid me follow her.
When I did she took me to the bumper of one of the RV's on display in our show area.
We've taken it off the market until her two eggs hatch
and the babes are on their way.
Today she sat placidly on her nest as I stroked her beautiful feathers.
I've named her ~Spirit~ ... for she sure has lifted mine.

**Special thanks to Nan for her help with the picture.

Margie girl this is so perfect...how loving and gentle of you to protect her like that, and its way cool having the picture to accompany your beautiful poem.
You always make me smile with your kind heart.
take care, jm

Do you care what is thought by others about you

Wow Marge~
I can imagine the joy you feel~
There was once a black squirrel in our backyard, that we nicknamed 'Snickers'.  He would take food from our hands and let us pet him~
What a delight he was~

As I sip my morning brew
I listen to the mourning coo
Of sitting dove upon my sill
Right next to the whipporwill.

His sweet song filled my heart with love,
The cooings of this little dove
So I said, "Sweet dove, thanks a bunch"..
And had the little guy for lunch!

Coo to You!  And may I bend your ear a bit with my own dove story?   The dove nested in my father's grape arbor one spring.  I was bringing him (my father)  a cup of coffee when I heard him talking sweetly into her nest.  So, ya know me, I tiptoed up to eavesdrop and heard dear old dad say to the bird..."If we were in West Texas, you'd be in a frying pan right now."

Heartwarming, ain't it?  (With a grinning not to the Balladeer...)

Love ya Mom!

You spread your joy like sunshine
warming spirits near and far away
a picture paints a thousand words
is a quote I remember for so long
yet when your pen touches lightly
and the words creatively flourish
your picture a masterpiece of art
making a few words a fine picture

Marge...what a wonderful poem!  It's obvious that the dove's instincts led her to bond with your tender heart (that's "tender" as in  "loving", Balladeer - NOT "tender" as in, "my steak was tender.")  Keep writing - you have a beautiful gift!

It got better for sure.  Thank you.

The eggs hatched and quickly grew ..
they fluttered through their little flying lessons and took wing.  Each morning they still return to the nesting area.
I've fed them in a grassy park area next to the RV lot ... and now there are many others that join them each day.

This was a heartwarming experience.
I can't wait until the next time.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm for my dove story.  It had a very happy ending.
