Plastic Sturgeon
~*Marge Tindal*~

I had to write this poem
at my best friend's urging
He bet one hundred dollars
I couldn't 'pen' a plastic sturgeon

When it comes to changing
mixing or re-arranging
you'd have to be a moron
to even begin to go on
an escapade as burgeoning
as finding a plastic sturgeon

I needed inspiration
so I set out to acquire
the plastic sturgeon
of my desire

I checked out the local fishery
Luck knew not my name
In nets of the local Red Lobster
the answer was the same

On my way to defeat
I chanced upon a sign
YOU NEED IT - WE'VE GOT IT
GARAGE SALE BEGINS AT NINE

I browsed - I poked - I plundered
When suddenly on the shelf
I spied a dusty plastic sturgeon
to satisfy my poetic self

This is NOT your day, babe
You just ran out of luck
Now my Doubting-Thomas friend
YOU owe ME one hundred bucks !

I wrote about a tin trout once
(It made me feel like a dunce)
And then about a steel shark
Just to do it on a lark.
Titanium tunas, I do find
Come easily to writers' minds
Along with copper codfish, too,
Are easily penned into view.

Chiffon crayfish could be a test.
Sequined squid would be the best!
Galvanized grunt I would enjoy
Silk salmon would bring me great joy.
But, if I ever get an urge on
To write about a plastic sturgeon,
I know exactly what I'll do...
I'll give that urge, dear Marge, to you.

A hundred bucks would be a strong motivation for me.  But never would I bet you (Miss Marge of Mystic Poetry) that you couldn't write about anything tht occupies space, time, or thought.
Well done.
ps. Thanks for the e-mail information

Thank you, love.
They are laughing today at my
workplace .. trying to come up with
a subject to throw me for a loop.
They are pooling their bucks and
their ideas.  This should be fun
and lucrative !  LOL !

But, alas, yes -- I think this does mean you have lost your amateur status.  This was a hoot.  Thanks for sharing.
