The Homecoming

The winds of March blow fierce against the skin
But cannot chill this warmth inside my heart
An ever burning ember from within
Has soothed the endless time we spent apart

You fought with courage what you had to fight
And walked the path with dignity and grace
As you fly homeward on this windy night
We wait with love and pride upon our face

Your sons will be there waiting at the gate
Young men with certain courage of their own
The fears that they once had to contemplate
Have vanished now that you are coming home

Just look at how the little ones have grown
The soup is hot, the fire’s warm, so Welcome Home

What a lovely sonnet, and the idea behind it is even more wonderful. I will be thinking of you and your husband, Elizabeth. God bless.

Love, Elizabeth
