A heart living ...  on the outside looking in ...
finding a soul, willing to pay the price for this momentary sin.
Understanding eyes have seen all the things this heart is missing,
love's old promises slowly fade ... reducing a tired heart to reminiscing.

For a moment like this, for just one kiss ... what would a lonely heart trade,
can contentment be held, without breaking love's past promises made.
Intrigue and fascination slow dance with desire and temptation,
an ever faithful heart now looks for the reasons to deny this invitation.

Honest intentions defined, no quandaries left to linger,
expectation and anticipation entwine like lovers interlocking fingers.
No strings attached, no questions asked, take one long, last glance,
still an aching heart does wonder the true cost of a second chance.

For these questions of the heart, the answers may define ...
though the heart will always ask of the moment that love fell into decline.
Commitment or contentment, can a hurting heart separate the two ...
while living on the outside looking in ... and still looking out at you.

Janet Marie

Do you care what is thought by others about you
If this day is all that is promised to you
Do you live for the present, the future the past...

Janet Marie...WOW!  Talk about a vicarious experience.  "living on the outside looking in ... and still looking out at you."  I have  "been there," and I can relate to the pain.  Thanks for sharing!

You paint a fragile heart with strokes of love. Very moving to one who has looked in and looked out.
Well done

WOW, you are producing some cool stuff. I love that last line as well as hsystems. I like this verse too...
For a moment like this, for just one kiss ... what would a lonely heart trade,
can contentment be held, without breaking love's past promises made.
Intrigue and fascination slow dance with desire and temptation,
an ever faithful heart now looks for the reasons to deny this invitation.

Janet Marie,
I think you have seen into my soul on this one.  I just love this part...

Honest intentions defined, no quandaries left to linger,
expectation and anticipation entwine like lovers interlocking fingers.
No strings attached, no questions asked, take one long, last glance,
still an aching heart does wonder the true cost of a second chance.

Beautiful words.  I love reading your work.  Thank you for sharing it.

Janet this is wonderful and some of the lines are interesting and fascinating because they are so visually inspiring..
"Intrique and fascination slow dance with
desire and temptation."
"An ever faithful heart now looks for the reasons to deny this invitation." and this is where you lost me...is this written by a woman that is married and struggling over a possible love affair or is this written by a single woman that still loves a former lover or husband...you don't have to answer if you don't want to but James would like to know..ha..ha..btw where did you learn to write so well...are you a college english professor?  Did you see the movie with Michael Douglas playing a college professor..it was good.    James

thanks guys, ... to ALL who read and replied and most of all related.
I wish we all didn't relate so well to this but if nothing else discontent makes for great inspiration  right?

butterfly... maybe someday I will write one of those "happy little carefree" poems and we both will relate  (NOT) (smile)
thanks for the hugs.

Jer, SOMEHOW I JUST KNEW those would be the lines you would like most *S*

sweetbabyjames... WE cant have you wondering can we...to answer your question, you were right on the first guess...yes its about a married woman "struggling"-with everything in her heart. AND no Im not a professor of anything...but I did go to the school of hard knocks.LOL
actually I'm a part-time caterer and landscape designer. I work a wicked spoon and shovel   thank you for such a sweet compliment.

serenity, I dont know how much I know...
but I learned it all the hard way...
thanks for always making me smile.

Please let me sneak my applause in here. This piece contains many questions many people have asked themselves....and the last line is worth its weight in gold. Wonderful writing, m'lady

Just me again, (sorry) but I had to reply twice...it so leaves a question of judgement up in the air...it reminded me of a quote, and please, someone help me out on the source--

"Be ye careful what ye ask of gods, for they may answer yet..."

Much love to you...

Balladeer, your words of wisdom are always welcome.I thank you for your understanding of this one and placing value on it.The last line was my emotional favorite as well.

sweet serenity, no sorry needed.I understand the wisdom of your quote. I am touched by your concern and support. yes, as you say it comes down to judgment. Does one stay true to their heart, or true to their promises.
Do we follow our heart ... or our conscious.
Who knows these answers, all I know is contentment seems to come with cost.
thank you for the prayers and love,
I send them right back at ya
take care, always, jm

Lovely, Janet!
I never cease to be amazed at your talent.  Sometimes I wish I could paint my poems as vividly and full of the truth of life as you do!   I bow to you, m'lady, in gratitude for the great works you have shared with me.

Terry,
I am both touched and humbled by your words and encouragement.
I am still -- daily amazed that my anyone finds reason in my "emotional outbursts" put to rhyme, but I am MOST grateful and enriched that they do
THANK YOU!
