Unchained Heart

For far too long
I have remained
Bound by doubt, fear, and worry
My heart wrapped in chains.

I was afraid to trust anyone
Enough to let myself get close
For I knew that I would suffer;
Haunted by Betrayal's ghost.

But then I was given
A most precious gift
Freely and willingly
My spirit it did lift.

That gift was your friendship
It is all that I need
For I know that you wanted
To give it to me.

And so, I am trusting
To give you mine in return,
For I know that the warmth of our friendship
Is a fire that heals, it does not burn.

I will stand proud beside you
If ever you need
To return all the strength
You have given to me.

And as a friend, a companion I will be
Even in your darkest hours I will never depart
So, my friend,  for what you've given to me
Thank you from the bottom of my unchained heart.

Thank you, Cheryl!   I really enjoyed the one you posted that I read earlier, too.  I'm glad you enjoyed this one...It really came from the heart!

Collins, James, and Marie, I thank you for all your kind words too.  It really makes me feel good to have others read my work and appreciate it.  I feel much relief when I am lucky enough to get it all out on paper!

You guys are the best!

It's wonderful to let those chains fall away, isn't it?

Worth the risks, I think.

lovely poem.

TerryW~
When the chains fall away ....
friendship matters most of all.
Wonderful job with your thoughts in this piece.
I enjoyed it very much.

I have one question - are you writing about me?!  This is such a wonderful tribute to your friend.  Absolutley beautiful.

The tragedy of it is that nobody sees the look of desperation on my face. Thousands and thousands of us, and we're passing one another without a look of recognition.

This poem is the true expression of friendship. I have been through a similar thing to you, I really relate to this poem in a big way. Thank you for sharing this gem with the Passions family.

Love and hugs,

Chains are loosened
and he rises
above the pain,
greeting life,
to live once more.

Beautiful expression of the release that comes from true friendship...nicely done Terry.
