(This is a series of replies written by some poems by Mike that I combined into one poem...Mike, just a word of thanks for the inspiration   )

If I Were...

If I were but a gentle dove
I'd fly on wings of white
High above the clouds and trees
I'd soar in graceful flight
In the air I'd drift away
My plumage shining bright
'Ore landscapes, rainbows, sun, and moon
From day into the night
If I were but a gentle dove
I'd fly the whole day through
On downy wings, I'd find a way
To get back home to you

If I were but a sparrow
Here is what I'd do
I'd perch outside your windowsill
And sing sweet songs to you
I'd nest high in the grand old oak
That stands outside your door
And watch you from a distance
Wanting even more
I'd greet you in the early hours
With soft, sweet melody
And welcome you again each night
As you came back to me

If I were but a snow white swan
With feathers shining bright
I'd drift upon a quiet pond
Lift off on wings in flight
I'd have been born an ugly chick
And grown through years in grace
So in your passing you would stop
To look upon my face
I float upon still waters
Arch my neck so long
Preen my silky feathers smooth
And spread my wings so strong
I'd drift along the waters edge
As you walked on the shore
I'd follow close, there in your wake
Till we were one once more

If I were but an falcon
I'd fly on outstretched wings
I'd soar into the highest clouds
To hunt you precious things
I'd search the skies above you
And watch you from on high
Hooded, tethered, bound no more
On graceful wings I'd fly
If I were but a falcon
Adrift up in the blue
In freedoms flight, I'd always find
A way to be with you

If I were but a butterfly,
...I'd soar on wings of air,
I'd float aloft on summer winds,
...as soft as angel's hair,
Rainbowed wings of many colors,
...radiant in the sun,
Suspended on a cooling breeze,
...with nature I'd be one,
If I were but a butterfly,
...adrift in heaven's blue,
If I were but a butterfly,
...I'd fly away with you.

If I were but a nightingale,
...I'd fly on feathered wing,
I'd soar amongst the stars above,
...and to the heavens sing,
Around the world on currents high,
...I'd sail the evening's breeze,
As I sought out, my one true love,
...to sing love's harmonies,
From Zanzibar to Tinbuktu,
...ever would I fly,
Seeking out my Aphrodite,
...on wing in welkin's sky,
If I were but a nightingale,
...I'd sing that I love you,
If I were but a nightingale,
...I'd fly as one with you.

If I were but an eagle,
...and you an eagle too,
We'd rule the world as king and queen,
...that's just what we would do,
Unfettered wings of feathered glory,
...silhouettes against the sky,
Our realm from foaming seashore,
...unto the mountains high,
We'd soar upon the whispering winds,
...beyond the farthest cloud,
The sun and moon we'd leave behind,
...as to the gods we bowed,
If I were but an eagle,
...and you an eagle too,
I'd take you in my dreams at night,
...and make sweet love to you.

If I were but a captain,
...and you my Lorelei,
I'd sail my ship upon the rocks,
...for in your arms to die,
In the rolling, tossing tempest,
...you'd be the eye of calm,
I'd lay my head upon your breast,
...to feel its soothing balm,
As trade winds blow, to fill my sails,
...I'd feel as if been kissed,
By beauteous goddess of the sea,
...she'd come from evening's mist,
If I were but a captain,
...I'd sail the ocean blue,
Seeking out my goddess fair,
...to sail away with you.

I am the one to give thanks Hoot, to be blessed by your beautiful words.

Very very good,

You know I keep a keen eye on your work and, needless to say your style is full of learning and, I can sure drink it up. I don't like to talk about who's the best unless I'm talking about God's children... and if we belong to Him we're all the best. But you can believe your sure one darn good cookie. Oh..! Mike must have a cookie or two laying around too. I'll be watchin' now.

Best Wishes< !signature-->
