SILENCE

silence is a thunder
that vibrates the inner ear
and echoes in the mellowed chambers
of the mind

it comes out of
the unknown storm cloud
from strange winds

and squelches the creative phrase
in the suicide of spoken thought

it is a meadowlark
wrapped in a shroud of "no"

a harp buried in the
unopened hymnal of the spirit

a vacuum of living
that sends a lance’s pain
through the still of void

and sears the nerve ends
with empty burning

it holds the ear prisoner
to nothingness

in a torment of the heart
on the fiercest edge
of torture

it pains the soul

and the victim ponders
in silence
the kindred origins
of the unheard

it is the child of fear
the brother of timidity
the mother of loneliness
the footprint of uncertainty
the invisible veil
of stifled air
and unchurned waters

born of human nature

Wow!  Liz, what a free verse--and an emotional piece...amazing phrases!

"it is the harp buried in the
unopened hymnal of the spirit"...just wonderful!

The loudest silence, I think, is the one that waits...Hugs!

Lizzie Santos took some wax,
Mopped her floors to fill in cracks,
When the job was nicely done,
She did her legs which wasn't fun.

Her legs and floors were slick as grease,
You could slide your hand up past her knees,
Her floors so slick you'd bust your ass,
She's one wax spreading little lass!

Hi ya Lizzie!!! How in the health are ya?...Hope things are going well for ya....I miss ya all.......Nicely done...as usual...you really should write a book yanno.

Lizzie, my friend~
I always like everything you do.
This is excellent free verse.

How are you, Liz?
I care, as do others here.
Prayers are with you my dear.

*Boy, that Toe can put a smile

*TOE SMACKING GOOD*....

It really is good, Elizabeth... I just can't ever resist the urge to trip'im, ya know?

I particularly like the "silence is a thunder" oxymoron you opened with.... Nice job, my friend.....

Excellently written, Elizabeth! That silence can sure be horrible, can't it? You've expressed it very well!

At times, I know of the silence you have captured in your magnificently written poem~

Your gift amazes me at times, Liz. This is a beautiful piece of writing. Human nature, indeed...silence can be our fiercest foe.

This is a beautiful piece, and so true. It's good to see you writing free-form!

Elizabeth, may you never suffer for the malady of silence. The world would be a much sadder place.

This is beautiful..

I wish so that I could as freely as you... and as flowing... yet I stumble over emotions that want to burst forth uncontrolably with a rhythm all their own... truly "it is a meadowlark wrapped in a shroud" of "no." How do yo let it go..?

Martie, I don't feel this verse is good - much too loose and can be greatly improved. Wish I could spend some time with you so you could give me some pointers. But thank you for your comments about the phrases. Much appreciated

hoot, Free verse still is not comfortable. Thanks

Toe, Where have you been? What do you mean, waxy legs. I can't think of anyone else who would come up with that. I could write a book about you. That's the most colorful subject I can think to write about. Glad to see you.

suthern, Toe pops up at the most unexpected moments with the most unpredictable remarks. just write down some of his savory quotes and we'll write a book together. Thanks

Pepper, How is the sweet one today? Thanks for your comments. Love ya

Marge, Thanks. Everything is going great. I will post soon in announcements. Toe is a card. He brightens my day

Nan. Thanks. I think this can be much improved. Iappreciate your comments

Denise. Silence speaks the loudest. Thanks

Sy, A very nice compliment from the master. Thank you Love ya

Mariee, Most can relate. Thanks for your kind remark.

Danny, Is this a play on words? Thanks!

vanana, Thanks you, dear, for commenting

Claire. Wish some of you accomplished poets would give me a class on free verse. I greatly appreciate your remarks

Lovebug, See that?, I ventured into free verse (very nervously). I'm still shaking in my shoes, silently, of course). Thanks, sweetie

Balladeer, I will put down my pen when you do. Thanks

lucky, It's funny you should say this, because I was just thinking the same about yours. What a beautiful verse to Rainbow. Magnificent! I wish I could write like that. Ired it several times. Thanks for reading and commenting

Liz
