The piano...
I listen to it being played
I want to play it
I want to join the song
But, no matter how I try
I find myself off-key
Off tune

I would like to practice
I know that I could do it
If I just had the time...
But time isnít something
That teenagers are meant to have
So, I just listen

I remember when I had the time
And I could play beautifully
Yes, beautifully
I played Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven,
And Bach... I loved Bach
But I have no time for Bach now

But maybe, someday
Life will slow down
And time will lend itself to me
And Iíll be on key again
Iíll join the song once again
Playing, not listening
To the piano

Lovebug,
This little poem has exposed a whole new side of you. You are a girl with many talents. I hope you do find time to keep music in your life. It is the sister of poetry.
I love your poem
And I love you
Liz

Excellent, love bug! There are players and there are listeners. Life's short. Be a player

Little Poetic LoveBug~

What joy of remembrance
this lilting tune.
Many and many an afternoon
perched on the bench
of grandmother fair
as she streched the ivory
while I sang to the air.

Then came the day
that she said ...
time to be a player instead.
Oh, the joy that came to me
as I pranced up and down the keys.
Brahms, Bach and Old Beethoven
the ivory danced with their names.
Oh, the joy ... their music stirred,
Oh, the joy no longer contained.

If Grandma Wainwright could now hear me ...
she'd say, "Tell her a player, she must be."

*LoveBug ... thank you for the inspiration
to write this little tribute to my Grandmother ...
and make the time to be a player ... so others can listen.

Liz is right, music is the sister of poetry, or the brother---anyway they are born of the same passion...I play the piano, and there is really nothing like the kinship between the player and the instrament....be a player and a listener.  Wonderful poem!!

LoveBug,

Play on, I say, PLAY ON!  I know exactly what you mean. I played up until the teenage years and then took 19 years off.  YES, I am playing again.  If you make the piano a priority, you will have the time.

A lovely little poem and yes life rushes by at a frantic pace sometimes, but don't always leave everything for tomorrow, for then you will find tomorrow never comes
