I knew a girl once, beautiful and such a lovely smile
But unfortunately she chose to live a harmful lifestyle

She had everything going for her, intelligence looks and more
But the only thing she lived for was that vital score

She had so much to give, but threw it away for the bitter taste of the demon she thought was a crown

And noone was beside her, along the lonley path she walked down

The demon devoured her, her heart, soul and being

We looked at this person, once bright and carefree, but it was not her we were seeing

The demon changed her completely and took her spirit away
We lived in hope that she would be saved and her soul retrieved someday

Unfortunately Samantha wasn't saved and she passed away in 1997 due to an accidental overdose of heroin
dead before the age of 30.

For you sam, still in our hearts

Very sad dedication to your friend ...
How do we stop drugs and alcohol?
How do we stop grieving our losses?
It seems to be a sad part of reality
that no one can control

Dear Rex and Ruth
Thanks for reading
This I wrote not long after I found out she had passed away.
One of the saddest things about it was that she has a daughter the same age as mine and was 8 at the time and that's who I felt most sorry for. She now has to live without her mum.

Nice poem, I like the comparison of drugs to a demon. Really makes you think.

Lucius and VampDude
Thank you both for reading
I don't wont to sound like a goodie two shoes because I'm far from it, but hard drugs are demons devouring some very worthwhile, intelligent human beings. If you saw Sam before the drugs took over her life you would be blown away by her physical appearance and her personality and it's so sad to see them slowly killing themselves.
