Memory's Lair

Memory is an evil torch
It shines too bright for me
It blasts into my heart at night
too light, too bold, to see.

It waits, salacious, for the fall
of evening's tender tresses
Its eyes, its hands, its villain voice
Its flood of cruel flouresces.

But captive moths will flutter still
with every bit of strength
against the light, the heated bulb,
a glowering at length.

In memory's lair, I flit each day
inflamed in heat and light,
and as shadows lure the sun away...
my lonely cries ignite.

Dear LadyClaire

Claire~
Like the moth so drawn to the radiant light,
I am drawn to every beauty you write.

'In memory's lair, I flit each day
inflamed in heat and light,
and as shadows lure the sun away...
my lonely cries ignite.'

So very longingly you.

Claire,
Memories can be haunting at times.  I loved the last stanza.  We all feel that way from time to time.  Excellent!!!

Friends are friend forever if the Lord's the Lord of them and a friend will not say never cause the welcome will not end.

Some memories are very painful. This is a wonderful poem, Claire, that shares the depth of the pain.

Liz, thank you. I appreciate the encouragement, and I will share with you all I can. I keep most of it to myself, for now, anyway.

Ah, Martie, you say the sweetest things. Thank you.

busylisa, you're definitely not the only one...thank you for reading and letting me know what you thought of this.

Marge, you words always bring a smile with them. Thank you so much.

Lone Wolf, thank you for your positive response. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Balladeer, thank you...for you to enjoy my work makes me smile.

Denise, yes, some memories just make the pain so intense, but I'm so glad to have the sweet ones, as well. Thank you for your kind words tonight.

Hoot Owl, thank you so much, for reading and letting me know.

Seymour, your words are always a treasure.  Thank you.

This really touched me Claire especially..."it blast into my heart at night...too light..to bold..to see."  I recently went thru an intense lonely period in my life but I am starting to see a change in my thoughts and my thinking.  When you are too needy people can sense that and I scared some women away from me with my intense feelings of loneliness..so hopefully I am now becoming stronger and feeling more in touch with myself.   James

James, I understand. I can tell, by your writing, that you are experiencing growth and healing now, and I am so pleased for you. You're such a gentle heart, but with much resilience, thank goodness. When I am feeling the most lonely is when I tend to pull away from people. I sometimes wish I could reach out when I feel this way, but it's simply not easy for me. Thank you for reading this and letting me know how it touched you. I appreciate your candor. Take care, James.

Yours was some of the work I missed the most in my absence, Claire.  Your words shimmer like satin and cut like steel.  Well done.

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...
