The Candle Burns never more

    A Child Awaits  Forgotten..
..all alone with in the                                          darkness..
                         ..a child weeping..
                         ..waits in fear.
                         ..time now draws near

    For you must..
              .. descend the staircase..
                         ..to hear his desperate                                              cries..
        ..so make haste my friend..
        For time is short...
                       ..the candle burns..
the child ..in anguish cries ..                                               why?

Imprisoned by an angry soul...whom chose to live in
                         hate

For in shadows cast of yesteryear....a parent left
                         alone.

The little child knew not why....the parent left to
                         roam.

In pain he knew not where to lash ....he banished                      to the dark.

All within that would ever love....childhood
                     innocence of heart.

To maintain control of his shattered past.....he
                     developed then a mask.

Now both the jailer and the prisoner of....his
                     perception held of past.

Yet when alone within the darkness...he hears a
                     child cry.

Denying that he does exist....to validate his                           reasons why.

With a heat of anger he ventures forth....a path way
                    marked by dread.

Ignoring the cries that haunt him....to life hangs                     by a thread.

Those that gave their friendship ....he viewed as
                   simply weak.

In return he chose to share with them...no more
                   than his deceit.

With-in the darkness, for those in search ....
a candle will guide the lost.

Yet may burn the hands of others....who weigh not
                  the final cost.

With in darkness, a soul must venture forth..
                  for found within is
                  what we seek.

The imprisoned child holds forgiveness..
a child’s heart..create a soul complete.

The inner child holds the memory...in darkness still
                    he waits.

Alone behind a wall he fights....demons your mind
                    creates.

They seek to destroy the candle....snuff out its
                    burring light.

To end the only chance you have....to find your
                    way..back through the night.

The candles flame no longer burns....the demons to
                    him now call.

The child hides to escape the shadows....in fear
                    behind the wall.

You chose to live in darkness.....weighed not the
                    finial cost.

Bluffed your way threw life....you will remain..
                    forever lost.

Holding on to memories bitter .... left you no room
                    to place a door.

No life within to feed the flame .....the candle for
                    you burns....
                    now never more.

                    Entombed...is for all time
                    this within forgotten child.
                    your demons won the game
                    as he now succumbs..
                    to your bitter darkness..
                    like you..
he will for an eternity                             remain.

                         Forever more..
                         the candle burns no more

Raven,
I woud say a multi colored garment, full of holes and hope. But very well done.

Very interesting and unique poem. It seems like a good one for Dark Passions...

....yet candles have a remarkable ability to be re-lit once they've been snuffed out....---molly

 Fleeting World
"Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream."
-from the Diamond Sutra, translated by : A. F. Price -- found in Teachings of The Buddha, edited by Jack Kornfield
