Killing Time

(slight rewrite)

Upending the hourglass,
watching rain fall in sheets
over an angry untamed sea,
even the gulls have gone to hide
on this colorless winterís day.

My cocooning house shudders,
gusts rattle the doors,
vibrate the mullioned panes,
they sing in unanimity
calling me out to play.

Though a fire blazes in the hearth,
Iím cold, curl up for comfort,
let the weight of the day come down
and release to sweet slumber.

A dream of recall,
a golden day
spent in simplicity,
sun warming skin,
hopping hot sand,
contrasting cold sea,
riding the perfect wave,
perfectly.

Building sand castles with children,
till the tide came to claim them again,
when they asked us why this was
you said life is just that way.

... maybe a nice long back massage would help too.

Great Poem,

I wish I was by the sea now instead of in the middle of Germany.

That was good advice, Corinne, because that is the way life is.....building sand castles, watching them fall then building them again. Excellent writing

Corinne~
Super recall for a chilly, rainy day.
I especially liked 'hopping hot sand'
Now THAT stirred a memory.
Sandcastles reclaimed ... wonderful image.
Wonderful, gal.

Better take him up on that backrub !)
