You said you would never leave me,
I knew that was a lie.
I also knew the time would come
For me to say goodbye.
Although nobody talked about it
I still understood.
Even though I would never say
I guess I never could.
I didn't even shed a tear
On that fateful day
When my mother held me close
And said, "Daddy's dead. He's gone away."
I guess it was meant to happen.
I guess it was meant to be.
And even though you have been gone for years now,
Dad, you're still a part of me.

This is a beautiful tribute to your Dad.My Dad passed away two years ago and I have recently written poems for him.  This was very well expressed and wonderfully written.
Welcome to Passions!

Mel to one Daddy's girl from another.
Beautifully done a tribute to what you shared with your Dad.
I also wrote one for mine Death Of A Loved One and ironically it will also be published in the same Anthology of Work as yours. Looking forward to reading more from you I think we may be kindred spirits......nona

Welcome, Mel!!  Wonderful poem.  It is always hard when you lose a loved one, but they do live on through you...in all you do.  No one can take the memories.  Treasure them always.
