My daughter Joriann read this to me on our way home from her school today.  This is her first poem and I am rather proud of her, I must admit!

TORNADO
  By Joriann K. Blackwell

Lightening strikes the night sky
like the angry crack of a bullwhip.
Screams of the wild wind
rip at ears of frightened people.
Thunder shakes the ground like a giant stomp.
“Where’s my child!”
A woman desperately cries
over the screaming wind.
“TORNADO!”
People shriek.
A child’s wail is heard in the distance.
As the woman unites
with her frightened child,
the tunnel of demons shrieks
louder and louder as it comes closer.
People look just in time
to see their homes
get swallowed up into the darkness
by the tunnel of demons.

 Fleeting World
"Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream."
-from the Diamond Sutra, translated by : A. F. Price -- found in Teachings of The Buddha, edited by Jack Kornfield
