The purest love I seek
The all consuming love that I've craved
This journey has often left me weak
But to this quest I'm enslaved

I urgently need to hold it tight
Of this dream I'll not let go
For even a glimpse of it's light
would keep me warm within the glow

To dance within it's song
And sing with it's perfect voice
Oh....to feel that I belong
Would be an occasion to rejoice

To feel safe within the folds
of it's life giving inanimate arms
To understand the secret that it holds
And to know the secret of it's charms

To release it's locked gates
That have mocked and kept me out
To laugh and rebuke the fates
That caused me pain and doubt

To confess to you all of this
I am not nor will I be ashamed
Worth it all for one moment of bliss
My hunger at last would be tamed

Until then I'll hunt this prey
No other want will rank above
The inner pain will give way
When I capture the Eluded Self Love

Self love is crucial to really experience love from anohter person. This is very well written.

"will you allow your heart to love your self...
the way you love others so easily"...
the question I ask of me...

butterfly as always I relate to your words so much...yes self love and self esteem can
be so hard to come by... especially if it was taken away from us early on by the people who are suppose to give it to us...
I understand, hugs to ya...
take care, jm

 and you can say baby...
baby can I hold you tonight
maybe if told you the right words...
at the right time,
you'd be mine...
baby can I hold you tonight...

Great poem, I enjoyed it!

Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.

Excellent writing, butterfly. That can be the most elusive love of all.

I tried to love myself once but after 2 years I asked myself for a divorce

Denise,
Thank you so much...and yes it is crucial but also very difficult.

J.M.
I thought you might understand and yes it is difficult to think that there is anything left that is worth loving when everything else has been taken way.

Butterfly, your graceful wings
are splendid to my sight
see through that diaphanous light
to the splender of your flight.

BUTTERFLY, this is so BEAUTIFUL!...so many of us have been hurt by "love"....We may have only gotten "bad love"....but we sure know how to give "the best kind of love".... i'm sure one day we will all find the love that you speak of.

take care  **hug**

Wings,
After reading your own beautiful poetry it means so much to hear your comments.  And I agree, sometimes I wonder if I would know real love if it bit me in the.....well you get the idea

Butterflies...I don't know how but I almost missed this one, that would have been my loss.     I will echo the thoughts of everyone else and say that you write so very well indeed my friend.
Strange how sometimes the love that should come so easily is so hard to find....

To love ourselves
yes this is important
nicely done

Reminds me of one that I once wrote
I should dig it up out of the dust bunnies

Butterflies, wonderful piece, my friend!  I, too, have waded through the miasma of life, searching for self-esteem.  It's a journey - not a destination.  But, it helps when you have wonderful traveling companions like all of the great folks here!  Thanks for sharing - it touched me!
