Life as a Child

Adults want to be children again
They think our life is so easy
But after reading what I wrote
It may make you a little queasy

Yes we have many toys for play
And yes we ride our bikes
But I would give them up anytime
To avoid my parents strikes

Yes we have birthday parties
Grandmas’ card was sent
But the bullies at school take it away
Just because I’m different

Little league, for all of us
But it makes some real mad
Since my parents got divorced
I never see my dad

So many friends at home and school
Should we just stand by
Or join the majority of all the kids
Doing nothing but getting high

School vacations are so much fun
But can be the time of danger
Because that’s the greatest time
Harm can come from a stranger

Being a child should be the best part of life
But as you can see, it’s not a game
We need guidance and security
We can’t enjoy freely, and that is a shame

So next time you wish to be a child
Remember what you’ve read
It’s not as easy as you may think
Stay who you are instead

Ken: All children need loveand to keep being told and shown just how special they are...sounds like you're writing about a miserable childhood.. (

I really wouldn't mind being a child again. Mine was a wonderful one. But not everyone's was or is. Great poem Ken!

This is great Ken. I wouldn't want to be a child again in this time...in my own past yes...it was wonderful..no worries at all. But things have changed...society has changed..and childhood is no longer the safe, warm place it was when I was young (and the dinosaurs are gone too!LOL)

so true, Ken.  SO many parents/adults in general don't take the time to consider exactly how things have changed for kids lives or go the opposite route and just don't let their kids out of the house.
It's nice to see you're thinking about it.  I know it had changed a lot when I was in school compared with when my folks were in school and I know it's changed a lot even in the 3 yrs since I graduated from highschool.  It's good to keep in touch with the changes though b/c they explain so much in terms of the attitudes and emotions of the kids that are still in school.  It really helps one to better tolerate attitude changes and such, of those that are younger if you continue to remind yourself of how these kids lives really are.

I'm still a child but with a lot more responsibilities! And I must say I am a happy one at that! I still play hard but now with bigger toys, ones that I have to pay for! LOL
But after reading this it makes me think of how we all need to provide our children..... Give them much love, security and guide lines to follow!
This has opened my eyes. Thank you for making me see what I must do for my own child!

Alot of powerful words in this one. No, every child isn't fortunate enough to have a wonderful homelife growing up...thanks for the reminder
