At the Home of Balladeer

We came together poet friends
Putting down our poet pens
To take some time to gather near
At the home of Balladeer

Who greets us smiling at the door
Drops before me to the floor
Bowing, he says, to the poet queen
The silliest sight I'd ever seen

It had to be our Balladeer
Gracious, warm and full of cheer
Tall and handsome, pleasant face
Well loved by poets in this place

Who is this with golden hair
Lovely smile and pleasant air
Welcoming us all with grace
It is Franni's pretty face

Who could this be, warm and sweet
Affectionate to all she meets
Open heart and smiling eye
It is bubbly Lorelie

Who is sitting next to me
Reading lines of poetry
Gentle voice and gentle ways
Poet friend who lights my days
Soulmate to the very end
It is Sy, our poet friend

Who is this, with smiles and grin
She talks to all and fits right in
Delightful tales she likes to tell
Sy's lovely wife, it's Isabel

Who sits there in introspect
With a quiet intellect
A mind with many different sides
Intelligence he likes to hide

I once referred to him as "rogue"
He said he likes his roguish mode
It is Lngjhn, poet dear
Friend to Toe and Balladeer

Who is dressed up to the nines
Hair of gold and voice that chimes
This grandmother lights up the scene
Looking more like seventeen

It's Pepper, Pepper, full of grace
Pretty smile and pretty face
She grabs your heart with all her might
In charismatic pure delight

Who is on our Pepper's arm
Looking like a movie star
It's husband, Brent, we've met at last
A man with talents unsurpassed

Who's the one who's come to see
Her friends of Passion's poetry
Who reads your poems as best she can
It's Liz, my friends, your greatest fan

Now this was one heck of a night
It was an evening of delight
The best meeting of poets yet
A night I never will forget

Thank you Fran and Balladeer
For bringing all the poets near
We'll do this thing again next year

Liz

Elizabeth,
You are a proselyte and I'm sure all of us that night, found you a wonderous delight.
You have an exceptional poets mind,
and thank god so very kind.
I'll remember you with the greatest pleasure as one of my very personal treasures.

Dear Liz, of course I had to bow
The same way I am doing now.
Your words of verse, so soft and sweet,
Will always have me at your feet.

The memories of that happy night
Still light my face with warm delight.
That sharing of comraderie
Will live on in my memory.

We know not where our paths may go.
Times can get rough as we all know.
Cruel Fate can often be unkind
And leave our happiness behind

But, when pain comes to get me down,
I just recall that happy sound
Of my dear friends who shared with me
Their friendship and their poetry.

So thank you, Liz, for being there,
Allowing all of us to share
Your friendship and your wondrous rhyme.
I just can't wait until next time!!!

....and I don't care what Sy says. You're not a proselyte. You're a nice person!!!!!

"The silliest sight I'd ever seen" was Balladeer???? *G* Then all of Toe's suspicions were right! LOL

This is a great poem, Elizabeth... and I'm so glad y'all had such a wonderful time. I know from phone calls that you and Pepper and Lorelei are absolutely delightful... LJA and 'Deer are sweeties and I'd love them even if they didn't give sweet Toe so much fun *S*... and I'd love to meet the whole gang in person someday!!

Thank you all for your responses to this poem. It was a wonderful time, for sure, and I hope we can repeat this. Pepper, if Martie and Nan and Gemini and Denise are coming next time, remember - I get the sofa. Now about being a proselyte, I'll have to deny that. I had to look it up in my dictionary, and it says a proselyte is an alien resident or a convert to Judaism. I am a legal citizen and my religion doesn't resemble any that has yet been given a name. As for Balladeer, he can be quite silly, but he is also a gentleman and a very well respected poet in Florida and I'm sure in other realms as well. We had a blast and I have a wonderful memory to fall back on. Wish you all could have been there.
Love
Liz
