Some hold the hands of the dying,
look into it’s vacant face,
although it no longer resembles
the loved ones we can’t replace.

Some cannot look into those eyes
smiling wanly, masking pain,
they understand how it hurts us,
and pray we don’t feel shame.

They are the peaceful ones, now,
while we are left to marshal on,
so carry with you their spirits
that’s what love is built upon.

Corinne, you see so clearly and it is so,  death and dying are hard to look at...yet it is somewhere we all travel.  You write so well and I loved the last stanza! ... so carry with you their spirits
that’s what love is built upon.

Dear Corinne,

This is a touching poem with a strong
message at it's closing.  Nicely done.

This is beautiful Corinne! A very good way to think of those we love who have passed  to a better place. It reminds me very much of my Dad.

This is beautiful and comforting, Corinne. I especially loved the last two lines also! My heart needed to hear those words! Thank you.

I think this one qualifies as one of your best.  Your opening verse is astounding (as is the rest)... Having seen that vacant stare, it really hits home with me... Thanks..

Words of love and truth. We do carry on their spirits and love. It goes on and on.
A wonderful poem, Corinne

Thank you, Tracie.

Rick, most welcome, sweet poetry man.

Why thank you, Nan. Technically, it has some flaws, but my heart was in it, if that counts for anything! LOL

Thanks much, Liz and Suthern.

Very touching poem on life's final journey.
