The Color of Skin
By: Amy M. Kennedy

The color of skin, can make even grown man stand in fear
A child not knowing what color she is, wipes away a tear
Color of skin plays such an important role, and determines who we are
When aren't we all God's children, each of us born a shining star
We tear each other down, calling each other names
Each of us isn't that different, we're really all the same
I think of color as God getting creative with a paint brush
He took his time and made us each special, didn't want to rush
Each of us has a heart and soul, that makes us each unique
It's time we all got up, and stood up and speak
Life is so short, we fight over such rediculous things
Hurting one another with our words, never can take them back again
Color of skin, dictates lives, it controls so much
Children taught to fear another person's very touch
For if they aren't like us, must be something wrong with them
Don't matter that they might be nice, or could turn our to be our friend
We teach our children to hate, it can be seen everyday
On the playground, on the job, its seen in every way
In a perfect world people would be just people, and skin wouldnt have such power
Our love for one another would bloom like a rose, or some other beautiful flower
This world will never be perfect, that's too hard you see
But perhaps one day, we'll find a way to live in harmony

~Live today as though it were your last but prepare for tomorrow as though it were here~

This was beautiful Amy...the world is full of this kind of pain, it's those of us who love only for love that make a difference, and I LOVED this one!!

Open arms can be the most fragile in the world...

Aimster, I loved this too, beautiful and meaningful. And so beautifully written.

Amy~

This screams to be heard by the very
people that don't have the ability to
absorb ... much less understand it.
Sadly, your words are too real.
Wonderfully done, my dear.

In the perfect world, that does not exist,
there is room for all shapes, colors and sizes.
I want to be among the ones who are counted
when the 'perfect world' materializes.

AMY-GIRL...
you have NO idea how this poem made me smile and glow...for reasons you couldnt know--you have touched my soul with this poem of understanding and acceptance...
as I have said before...you are sunshine sweets.....SUNSHINE!!!!!
love ya, jm

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Excellent message! When human beings can be colorblind to the color of a person's skin, the world will be a better place.

Amy...nice poem. I have found when it comes to skin, I am color blind. Too bad I can't say that for most people
