~ My Storybook is Closed ~

Now then...Once Upon a Time...

There was this scared little girl
who one day found a magic book -
she took it to her darkened room
jumped in bed to take a look...

It's cover shimmered brightly
and the pages smelled so new -
she opened it so carefully
stepped inside, and fast she flew...

There before her was a world
so vast of happiness and blue -
skies so full of funny people
some were strangers, some she knew...

So many different characters
welcomed her with open arms-
There were ladies fair in beauty
there were princes sweet with charms...

There were knights & lonely maidens
horses, dragons, fairies too -
There were clowns & fools and even some
who looked like me and you.

There were shooting stars & dreams
Rainbows, Roses, Butterflies -
All this splendor overwhelmed her
Magic danced before her eyes...

So on and on she read,
adventures, dreams, and fantasy -
And far away she flew
She forgot reality.

Her wings were strong, she flew with grace
she soared the magic sky -
She slayed the dragons, wished on stars
and sang with lullaby.

This little girl so brave now
in the pages of this book -
She hid within her fairy-tale
and didn't want to look...

At the real world all around her
cold & barren - full of lies...
Reality can seem so cruel
it comes as no surprise...

Why so many little children
run to the shelves within -
to find a magic book thereon
where fairy-tales do spin...

Where lords & ladies dance in love
the butterflies are free -
to float on winds within the book
Captive dreamers are set free...

That little girl is me,
and now I gently close this tale -
this magic journey in my heart
the wind on which I sail...

I make a place high on the shelf
to tuck this book away -
As I step back to reality
to face the coming day.

I curtsey to the characters
within this book of mine -
All of you, I hold so dear
You've dreamed with me in rhyme.

I've lived safely in the pages of a dream.

beautiful poem, poet fem, truly.....
if only we could write our own happy endings and live in our dreams...
very nice work with this one...great graphics as well.
take care, jm

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

poetFemmeFatale,

The magic of that world may go on and on but will never be the same without you.  This is very sad for me to say the least, for the friendships wrought in this world are not of fantasy though some seem to spin upon the wheels of dream and fate.

I would not ask you to ignore the reality around you, nor would I ask you to "live" in a world that seems fantasy to you.  But I would ask you to remember this, the people in this storybook are very much real and will miss you greatly.  I, personally hope you decide to blow some of the dust off that old book and take another look... I mean, heck, any book that good deserves to be read more than once!!!

Take Care, girl,
You always know where I am.

Michael

Beautiful writing, Femme. I doubt if your storybook is closed, though. There are too many tails yet to tell.

Loved your poem ... I tend to read books the same way ... I don't just read them ... I live them ... and rewrite them and live them to the fullest

Beautiful poem. I save all my books because I love to pull out my favorites and read them again and again. If you are saying goodbye, please stop in once in a while for a chat. Take care.

Femme~
This is beautiful.
Watch it stick around and become a Classic.

I guess at times we'd all take the world of make-believe over reality.
We may live in the realm of the real world, but retreat to the fairy tales with fond remembrance.

This is a wonderful poem and it speaks to me of the way that many little girls are taught--to believe in fairy tales and happily ever after and that love is the answer to all questions...and of course it's much more complicated then that...

This poem reminded me of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Have you read it? It's a beautifully written book as well as having a good story. About your poem, I think you should simply title it Magic Book because your subject really concerns magic, doesn't it? I think you might consider trimming and pruning the excess words a little~
Example, currently you write

There was this scared little girl
who one day found a magic book -
she took it to her darkened room
jumped in bed to take a look...

Maybe...

There once was a little girl
who found a magic book
she took it to her darkened room
then jumped in bed to take a look.

(Would a scared little girl want to go into a darkened room?)

In any case, keep writing and best wishes to you.

Dreams end when you wake -
Clowns remove their makeup -
and friends, they come and go...

Just tired of living fantasy with empty hands...
I want something I can touch, besides this keyboard.  So I am giving this book to the dust, and am going out to live reality and find my peace.  You can't sleep forever, you know.

PFF.....as well written as this poem is...we can't always live in a fairytale. Reality sure stinks sometimes, but it's something we can grasp onto unlike the fairtale dreams we had when we were growing up. I always had these illusions of what love should be like, laughs...haven't found that in real life yets, so perhaps I should go back to my dream world. Hey girl chin up....it will get better. E-mail me if you need to talk.

bboog,

I am gonna state that I think there is a definate difference in offering critique and trying to override an authors vantage point.  This is something I've seen you do twice now.

I happen to know this little girl.   She was scared - and lived in a darkened room where as she had no choice but to return to.

If you insist on basing you critique on personal point of view rather than poetic ethic, I would ask you to at least show the author respect enough to question them by email.

This is an open poetry forum for poetry and reply - this is not a critical analysis forum.  Please take note of that.

PFF: Some books are meant only to be read and placed back upon a shelf where hopefully another reader will lovingly smoothe their hands over the worn pages and read with avid interest...lets hope so, lets really hope so...I wish you dragons to slay, magic dust upon your wings so that you might fly with  dreams intact but most importantly that you will be read with love and never put down upon a dusty shelf..

She walked through life like an unread book
A million words just waiting for a look
For that reader who did lose himself
In the splendour of it all when he picked her from the shelf

She waited for the one who would blow off the dust
Lovingly opening the covers he must
Move through the pages with his tender hands
Find himself lost in mysterious lands

Guide him through the tale slowly she will
While his breath quickens and his heart stands still
Take him through to the end when he sighs
And rests her gently on his warm thighs

When the time comes to place her back
With all the others in the crowded rack
He will stop to remember all that he read
The joy and sorrow that linger in his head

He will take her with him forever and dwell
In the glorious pages of her magic spell
She walks through life like an unread book
A million words just remembering his look.

Limited edition only

I dropped a tear in the ocean
when it is found, I will stop loving you...

I can't possibly go back up and say something to each one of you, as the list is long!  Just want to say a sincere Thanks from the pages of this old dusty book!

Balladeer - I do have many more tales to spin, however, I think I'll do my spinning outside from now on, instead of isolating myself in front of this darn monitor!  It's getting tired of looking at me!

bboog - I promise, I will read it.  Thanks for all!

Michael - I promise, no more hoops!  ROFL  I also wish you the best, I have seen much sunlight shining from you again...that's always nice to see, even if it's not from me!

RainbowGirl - Thank you so much for the wonderful response, and the beautiful addition you left me with...That really hit home.  Thank you! I do feel like an unread book...Although I feel I'm written in Japanese or something weird like that.  No one seems to understand what they read!

Once again, thank you all.  You have all played a wonderful role in my life the last 9 months.  I've met many interersting characters here to say the least! I've felt like I've visited the circus/zoo nearly everyday since last July when I joined!  ROFLMAO  Peace & love to you all!  I will stop by from time to time, I'm sure.
