Live for Today
~~~
To  get  through  the  day
a  few  winks  I  need  borrow
If  the  jobs  not  done  now
heck ... there's  always  tomorrow
I  anger  less  often
I'll  even  take  all  the  blame
Lifes  a  thrill  it  seems
just  to  play  simple  games
I  prepare  each  treasured  day
for  the  long  journeys'  end
When  my  time  and  eternity
finally  meet  and  they  blend
~
My  cares  are  less  wanton
for  the  cash  and  the  glitter
I've  socked  away  some
in  case  the  days  do  get  bitter
I  use  a  much  broader  view
for  the  sights  I  now  find
Try  to  judge  all  I  hear
with  a  wide  open  mind
I  put  my  brain  in  high  gear
for  all  but  a  yawn
Whence  the  lip  it  goes  forth
I  rest  assured  when  it's  gone
~
All  the  friends  of  my  youth
come  to  visit  me  often
Inside  my  old  head
where  their  visions  I  soften
My  day-dreams  now  wander
to  unknown  sights  yet  ahead
Lingering  all  so  much  longer
on  every  tear  that  I've  shed
Dismal  days  getting  darker
down  the  road  that  I  roam
To  a  place  where  the  living
can  never  call  home
~
I'll  try  to  bring  laughter
avoid  all  the  tears
The  time  I  have  left
could  span  many  years
So  plug  in  your  smile
and  show  me  your  grin
Borrow  my  hanky
wipe  the  tears  from  your  chin
The  best  things  in  life
we  share  from  within
To  never  have  laughed
is  dam  near  a  sin
~~~

Rex I agree with you! It is a sin not to laugh! Where would we be without it? We could never watch politics again! LOL

First time I've read any of your poems... This sure caught my attention!  I'll be looking for your name from now on.  Great poem, by the way... nice, positive philosophy!

Every day a new day for laughter and tears--I like your attitude Rex--I try to do the same, with some help from time's lessons mixed with a little hope.  I enjoyed your poem.

Good to see you, Rex. In a world where there are so many things to laugh at and about, it is definitely a sin not to do so

Rex~
I like what you've done with the laughter.
In this world we might as well laugh at ourselves ... you know darned good and well that someone else is !
I like to leave a smile where I've been.
Great attitude ... BIG SMILES !

How'd you know I needed that hanky?  This is great! We all need to laugh as it's the best medicine   Thanks, I missed your work as I've not been around here too much, and I was thinking of you yesterday...

This is great, Rex!!! I've always loved that old Grass Roots song "Live for Today"... we sure aren't guaranteed tomorrow... we've got to bear it so we might as well grin! *G*
