             Ship of Dreams

Into the dusk a mighty ship had sailed
the biggest ever, unsinkable it was hailed

A destiny etched in time and history
the reason it sank never a mystery

1912 was the year of its fate
decades marked by this memorable date

Twenty two hundred came aboard carefree
fifteen hundred to later die at sea

Towards the west from Ireland it steamed
to America of which many had dreamed

Twenty one knots a speed considered fast
but perils ahead wouldn't let it last

In icy waters an iceburg roughly hit
sinking assured, rescue flares were lit

CQD distress call was loudly made
but time and distance caused hope to fade

Panic began for life boats too few
desparation for safety made by the crew

Slow and sure the big ship did sink
a fatal destiny for many to link

Into the waters and a death by freeze
to die or live their fate did sieze

A day in history of unspeakable panic
recorded forever, sinking of Titanic

Wonderful poem, Danny. I just watched the movie Titanic two nights ago and was thinking what a terrible tragedy it was. Thankyou for putting this into words.
