As the icy cold kingdom of winter is dethroned
the revolution of springtime thaws reclaim
despoiled lands, rendered bleak and mottled by
deadening frosts and hard freezing rain that sucked
life from the very ground beneath us

A break in the clouds renders sustaining warmth
to the bone weary travelers, tired of huddling in
cold shelters from the frigid fangs of wind bourne
chills, stalking the land like angry frost giants
jealous of the warmth within our bodies

As I look to the passing crowds, the familiar
grimaces and squinting eyes have been changed
into friendly smiles, resplendent in the sunshine
that beckons the reclusive winter hermits
to bask within it's amber gaze

This is the time for forgetting the woes and laments
sustained within winters dreary fold, preparing
for the coming of summer, and beholding all the
gifts of nature magically retrieved from the maw
of a now passing season

i liked this a lot

"travelers, tired of huddling in
cold shelters from the frigid fangs of wind bourne chills"
"A break in the clouds renders sustaining warmth
to the bone weary travelers, tired of huddling in
cold shelters from the frigid fangs of wind bourne"
"This is the time for forgetting the woes and laments" perfect phrase  good message...and yesterdays  snow will soon be gone. nice poem.

Diana B - thanks and that is just what it feels like after 6 months of winter.

Denise- as always, where do you find the time? You are the common thread in all my replies, and I thank you greatly because I would be lonely if not for you efforts

James~
This depicts the thawing of clime and spirit.

'As I look to the passing crowds, the familiar grimaces and squinting eyes have been changed into friendly smiles, resplendent in the sunshine
that beckons the reclusive winter hermits
to bask within it's amber gaze'

Nothing like the smiles that were hunkering down in the cold of winter ... to melt the winter snow and greet the emergence of spring.
