I closed my eyes
last night
and saw you,
the way you were.
Waving at me
from the end of the walk
one hand resting gently
on the post
that holds up the gate.
I could hear the sounds
of the gate swinging softly shut
and your footsteps
falling on the hard concrete
as you walked
away.

ChrisG~
So nostalgic is the picture of this moment.
Beautifully done.

Oh such sad dreams you have Chris.   I hope this comes from poetic lience and not from your life. Well written my friend.

Beautiful, the motivation of this piece leaves so much for the reader's imagination, yet the degree of detail you've written into it sustains, actually becomes, the poem. Again, wonderful work, Chris.

Thank you Marilyn and Claire...and no..this isn't from life's experience that I speak from here...or is it?   I guess at one point or another we have all let someone walk away...

Anyway...thanks for the kind responses.

Sometimes the simplest of actions can be the most poignant and leave the strongest memories. Very well written
