A WARRIOR'S FALL

Brave young warrior,
Answer Time's song.
Of mourning's woe,
Yesterday's wrong.

By shattered stone
Of broken heart
Walk on, alone,
That all impart.

Ne'er forgotten
The tears, now dried,
For fallen friend
That once you cried.

From hills, sombered,
Silence screams.
Where, lo, encumbered
Death yet dreams.

By touch of shade
The tranquil calms
Of peace been laid
Cold to your palms.

As ebbing darkness
Bournes the sun
Of life in starkness
Near now done.

With the wild wake
A stoic flare,
What hearts won't break
Upon thy stare.

As silence creeps
The mourning hall,
Who left there weeps
A warrior's fall?

Marge, your poem moved me deeply.  I couldn't find adequate words to reply.  I am of Cherokee descent and when I read your peom I could so vividly see a Cherokee Warrior walking with that stern face carrying his fallen that I was compelled to write this... to epitomize our "Trail of Tears" if you will.  Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Michael

O'Siyo - My brother, My friend~
A moving spirit of affirmation of the pain of the legends of our past.

I heard the cry
of many ~warriors~ in the night
compelling me to listen
as they cried their plight.

As I listened
I heard the wail
of the teardrops falling
along 'The Trail'.

Nunna Daul T'Suny
'The Trail Where They Cried'
the tales of the great Cherokee
have come home to reside.

At the campfires of the setting sun,
a warrior cries.
I feel his spirit,
his tears fill my eyes.

In my heart
and on my tongue at last,
the telling brings home
the messages of the past.

Peace, my brother.

Exellent and deeply moving work, Michael.  I too have Native American ancestry.  This gives a sorrowful look at what they must have went through.

Complements Marge's poem well my friend! And I liked the quick rhyme scheme you used here to depict quickness!
