BANGOR (that OR) ME

I step lightly avoiding the brambles
and the tree stump roots while looking for
a new place to hide, someplace where I can go
to feel at home and never worry about the wild
creatures lurking just beyond my sight

If I am to stumble and fall
who will be there to help with the
scratches on my knees and pick the dried
leaves out of my hair as my mother once did
many many years ago

I am afraid of letting go
of the control I have of myself
allowing another to see that I have faults
that I have fears and weaknesses rolling along
just under my well polished surface

The only way I can see
to change the way my life is heading
is to trust in a stranger, to learn their faults
and misgivings, and so learn that everyone
can feel afraid of their life

First I must learn to trust myself
to realize I am capable of many things
that there is someone inside me worth loving
and in doing so, I will be set free of my restraints
and leave my self imposed isolation

As I look at the wind stirred mass
of winter bared trees branches overhead, I glimpse
a single green bud setting out to begin, again
in spring, and I realize that I am just the same
that I am ready to grow

 A real man
kisses his children goodnight

This poem speaks to me... actually, speaks to what i'm going through right now.  I do like the ending, where afer all the things you've gone through, you saw something positive... something to hope for, which is growth... life!  It's genuine.

"First I must learn to trust myself"

That line spoke loudly to me... That's been my battle for many years - I feel I am finally achieving a victory of sorts there.  Certainly could realate to this poem...Very well written.

Well written!

This is a good poetic journey - with insight.

Clapping for you.
