~The Pain Of The Past~

Voices that return in echo's ... from the distant past,
Old wounds that wont heal, pain that lingers and lasts.

Whispers turn to whines, crying in the night,
Reasons are lost to the questions with no answers in sight.

The loss almost overtakes and breaks my will,
No release from these moments, time seems to stand still.

Childhood memories return, old ghosts calling my name,
The demons are now older, but the pain is still the same.

Returning for the answers-needing the reasons of why,
Remembering the promises broken, lost to living this lie.

From the shadows of this pain, I intend to be free,
Reclaiming my trust and faith...all the things you took from me.

 ...every moment of every day...
your still with me in every way.
every poem and song...
every rhyme and verse...
your still here...like a beautiful curse.

I know how it is, Janet, to have the memories just come back like that...

Excellent writing. History has a way of shaping us into what we are. We can never lose the gentle side and the hope of brighter days.

Hi Janet,

I love the last two lines, and it looks like you have gained some wisdom and strength through your pain.

Thankyou for the wonderful poem,

I'll show you the light
I'll show you the way

my hearts warmth is here to stay

I'll show you the light
burning as bright as the sun

And a heart so tender rolled into one

This poem speaks volumes to me, Janet.  Every stanz is an image of my own past.  Can feel the pain... but I offer a smile anyway.

Good working of the couplets. You can count me as a fan. I like these lines,

The loss almost overtakes and breaks my will,
No release from these moments, time seems to stand still
