Everything But You

I heard those three words
"You Got Mail"
and in a hurry I opened it up
looking for a letter from you
only to find
three forwarded jokes
"sure to make me laugh"
and an ad on how
to make added income

My phone rang yesterday
and I rushed
to pick it up
but it was only a man
wanting me to change
my long distance service
in a "deal I couldn't refuse"

I stopped at the post office
and there was mail in my box
and I couldn't wait
until I got home
to open it
but it was only an advertisement
to join a record club
"twelve for the price of one
nothing more to buy...ever"

So now here I sit
with jokes galore,
money opportunities,
a new long distance service,
and enough CDs
to start my own record store

Here I sit
with everything
...but you

The poet's job is to put into words those feelings we all have that are so deep, so important, and yet so difficult to name, to tell the truth in such a beautiful way that people cannot live without it. ~Jane Kenyon

Hoot, this was very lovely and sad, and I'm there with you. So do what I do, send out your own mail, accept all party invitations, smile alot.... it works on occasion. The trick is staying for the long haul, and never give up and try to have fun while your looking.

Hoot,
This seems to be the story for so many...myself included waiting on love to be returned.  I loved it as I have loved your others.

In my stupidy I seemed to have not replied to this as I read it yesterday and swore I did.  I am sorry Ruth.  I understand  this very well and completely know what you feel.  And more than that....I know you know I know.

Hoot~
Yeah ... I can feel it for you.
Even the offer of free dance lessons are
a joke when there's no one to share them with.
Wonderful writing, Ruth.
