One of the best features of the main site is the ability to write a descriptive paragraph about how a poem came to be...the meaning or the reason it was written. As we get ready to celebrate April as National Poetry Month, I'd like to share this story and poem with you.

Eighteen months ago, I posted a poem on some web site. I don't remember which one. I received a glowing fan letter from a gentleman from Kentucky, by the name of Ron. We've kept in touch; he's inspired me..and truth be known, many of the poems you've read from me were inspired by phrases he supplied.

A little while later, I met Ron Carnell at the old miningco.com site and was invited to post on his 'infant' Passions In Poetry website. I did. And it was the beginning of a journey that has led to this moment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both. For their guidance, their kindness,
their constructive critism and their faith in me.

Thank you - To The Rons
One of you gave me the courage
To write the songs in my heart
One of you gave me a home
A joyous place to start

Both of you gave me freedom
To pen this poet’s song
For that I will always remember
That I once yearned to belong

You share more than a name
In my eyes you share my fate
With kindness and compassion
It’s your approval I await

The din of applause may never
Be heard by this poet’s ears
But I have heard your praise
Soothe over my doubts, my fears

Others may heap accolades
Upon your deserving breast
But in the quiet of my night
I count you both as the best

Friends that always lift me up
Both sharing a common name
You are The Rons, as I know you
Both different yet both the same

Though time will surely pass
I will count each of you as friend
With every rhyme, you are the reason
This poet’s song will never end.

(My friend in Kentucky also writes poetry and
I'm sending this to him in hopes that he will join us!)

Not much to say on my reply,
Only because this heart of mine
Can never tell a lie,
So to one Run you talk about
That will be judged from above,
Remember I tried to show
nothing more than love.

What a wonderful tribute to two very blessed people. This was so touching and emotional. It literally poured from your heart.

I echo your voice in praising Ron, but I must add Sharon, that you have a heart of purest gold. I've never known someone so caring and giving, and I am proud to call you a friend!

PdV, your friend will be as welcome here as anyone--hope to see him here soon! Thank God for people like both of these Rons, and just imagine, if you hadn't met them, you wouldn't be here today (and then where would the Adult forum be? lol)! It's Fate!

Sharon~

I thank 'first' Ron
and 'other' Ron
for turning
the PoetdeVine on.

Wonderful tribute to two men,
who with their inspiration have
touched you.

'Other' Ron (Carnell)is certainly an
inspiration to us all.
Look forward to meeting
your 'first' Ron.

Ah, I have witnessed and partaken of much of this journey with you. And though I was never close with the first Ron, Mr. Carnell has had the biggest influence on my life of anyone person other than my father.  I can never say enough to thank him or properly show him the appreciation I feel for the friendship, the opportunities, and the unquestioning support he has always given me.

This was a wonderful tribute to "both" your Rons...  Thank you for sharing this, PdV.
