My life was halted in its track through cruel force
Pierced by the sharp-edged sword of love
Was my heart without any sense of remorse
And unable to move or think I fell off the horizon
Of my turbulent and unexploited life

Am I living now, or is it just a dream?
A nightmare driven my mental images of my past
Illusions come ashore, lifelike
As if real to the touch
In front of my eyes luring in the darkness

At night my arms embrace a shadow of my memory
And I feel the warmth of no body next to mine
Not a day goes by without unimaginable pain
Tearing at my soul, slowly eating away
The remains of a precious memory keep alive

I look inside myself and see the emptiness of my heart
Vacant space echoing images of torn emotions
Like a hollow tree struck by lightening many moons ago
Unable to revive its powerful beauty which once
Attracted beasts to nest in the warmth of its crown

I wait… for no particular reason or thing
Every ring of the phone, every car pulling close
My hope is sparked anew, my heart-rate races
For a quick moment only, just to fall deeper
Enduring the incredible torment over again

And with quietness setting in, the sadness returns
Sleep does not come easy and
Hunger is no longer felt
A vacuum fills all the voids where
Passion ruled and lit my path though life

Replaying reflections of times gone by
Fills my eyes with salty tears
And with a cold shiver shearing through by body
I hunch over to numb the harshness of the pain
Deliriously wallowing in illusions of the past

I occupy my mind and pretend that I am mistaken
That my dream which once was so very much alive
Is still waiting on the horizon with a smile on her face
Yet the naked truth returns in the mornings
Shattering all fantasies and thoughts of tenderness

A distant day might dawn some time
When my sorrows will blow away
Like a tumbleweed in the desert wind
Slowly fading where the earth meets sky
How long can I endure the pain?

Great piece! I loved reading it, so well written with deep thought and deep emotions, welcome to Passions
