Sooner or later we wake up,
sooner or later it ends.
It seems life at times, that we make up
images of those we call friends.

And sooner or later we wake up,
and see it was all in our minds.
So much time, confusion can take up,
so much pain as a friendship unwinds.

You were not the person I once knew,
Today I have come to see.
All the time that you were being you
I saw what I wanted for me.

Kevin~
Very astute.
Very sad if true in your life.

I think we always look for a little
of  ourselves in our friendships ...
and are sometimes disappointed
when they don't turn out the way
we hoped they'd be.

Hope all is well in your
corner of the world.
Good to see you.

Wow Kevin...so much truth in just 3 stanzas...Bravo!

Unfortunately, I am awake too.  LOL  And unwound...geesh, what a ride.  I relate to, " I saw what I wanted for me".....Excellent writing sir.  Do we ever really know the other person?  I don't think so....tis sad.  We only see what we want to see, I have been very guilty of that.  I applaude your honesty and your thoughts on this.   Gennifer

Good poem! I think this is true sometimes, we want our friends to be the same type of person we are and when they aren't we justify it....
